Yeah i think a greater emphasis should be put on alternate history concept arts, they are much more interesting than simply copying the already existing art from existing events. The london bombing background was truly a glorious one.
Yes, and they're so great. But they're a bit too focused on the US and the UK. I think you're missing great stuff. Battles are always cool, but some specific famous episodes, subverted, are also nice, especially if they're in a famous painting that has been "tweaked". Like Lincoln beating the crap out of John Wilkes Booth at the play.
Something like:
- Napoleon III's triumphal march under the Brandenburg Gate, while Bismarck watches, sad and lonely.
- Taiping Chinese emissaries demand the conversion of the Japanese Emperor.
- The Six Allied Nations defeat the Ottoman rebels in order to free the international legation, besieged during 55 days in Istanbul by the Turkish Brotherhood.
- The Great Deal between Robert E. Lee of the CSA and Al S. Johnston of the California Republic.
- Brazilian and Argentine garibaldist troops assault Rome with the redshirts against Vittorio Emmanuelle, enraged by the murder of their hero.
- Jean Jaurès inaugurates the United Communes of France, like in his famous speech picture.
- Pilsudski's Intermarum Federation beats the Soviets at the Siege of Moscow.
- Japanese towns burnt down by Russian ironclads.
- Two Sicilies Congo, anyone?
Also, in the spirit of the French magazine Jour-J:

As for other games, I've always felt EU was the great game for alt history. There are just so many paintings to subvert! Columbus meeting Henry VIII! Cortés fighting Zulus or the Mughals! Richelieu over the ships blocking London! Napoleon in Dover Straits! Louis XVI in majesty recieves Charles of Austria in submission! Alfonso the Magnanimous takes Constantinople from the Turks! Zheng He and his huge ships docked in front of Venice! Timurids burning Moscow down! Gustavus Adolphus in London! The New Netherlands and New Sweden colonies rebel in 1776! Washington crossing the Delaware with a British flag, to fight Napoleonic troops from Louisiana! Henry V of England and France in majesty! Cromwell and his Commonwealth Model Army crosses to France to spread republicanism and protect the oppressed southern French puritans!
Etc etc etc. EUIII and IV are just the perfect playground for this kind of stuff.

I did notice how, even if this alternative piece didn't quite make it in, there is still the occasional randomized newspaper clipping mentioning that Lincoln foiled the assassination attempt, throwing Boothe from the balcony. I always find it hilarious.

It's not Napoleon III winning against Germany that's fantasy, it's more like France winning a war is a fantasy.
isn't frenchbashing tedious? I say that as a German. Anglos behave a bit like they have been scoffed by the pretty girl at prom concerning this topic.
It's just that when you consider the potential France used to have and compare it with what it accomplished you can't help but feel that it kinda failed. It was the most populous, wealthiest country with strong centralized government and relatively safe borders. Why they never really dominated Europe and allowed British Empire to gain the upper hand in colonial race is inexplicable. Even when they did win wars their gains were unproportional to the costs and losses. Add to this their Franco-Prussian and WWII blunders and you can't help but make fun of them. Even their valiant fight in WWI and splendour of Napoleonic tournée all over Europe ain't enough to make me feel respect. I meant no offence though, don't take it seriously. Here, have some jokes.

To get those borders they fought the powers of Europe many times, often on their own. France itself is an achievement. They then forged massive colonial empires and until the 1940s had the second largest in the world. I know you are trolling but its a tedious position to take on a forum like this
Well, maybe it's because it's not true. Maybe not from the British and American point of view, but in the rest of Europe and arguably the world France has made a longer lasting and more dominating impression culturally, legally, scientifically and military than the British. English is the lingua franca for about 70 years. French is the lingua franca.

English has grown to dominance in last 50 years, as has already been said. On other hand, for Europe France has been the most important country since Merovings.

And I say it as a Brit. (And woefully inaccurate; did someone miss the bit where Napoleon nearly conquered all Europe?)
Rosyburglar, French colonial empire wasn't the second greatest it was third (Spaniards carved bigger in America), or if you consider Russian possesions in Asia and Alaska - fourth (Not only different continents but also pagan/sunni/altaic indigineus population in these regions was culturally exotic to slavic,christian Russians. It means that de facto those were colonies) What's more most of French colonal empire was a barren desert - looks nicely on the map but that's about it. British Empire was over 3 times bigger and had over 5 times greater population. French got some of the worst parts of Africa during the scramble. However I have to admit that you are right when you say that France is an achievement. Considering all French screw-ups, just the fact that their borders are similar to those in 1477 is an achievement. Don't get me wrong It's not like I have something against France I respect french contribution to the european history. Put it simply: my evaluation of the player who had France for the last 5 centuries is rather critical. Their army has nice uniforms though. Really like the blue.

Any impressions it might've had long since passed. Francophone world is smaller than anglosphere or latin america. Primary foreign language kids learn in most countries is english. Lingua franca of programming, internet and all those annoying social medias is english. Even in international law where French indeed was lingua franca it's importance is about the same as English and steadily declining. France had a huge impact on the other european countries but it could completely dominate them considering its population, wealth and location.
