one of my vacation projects is to try and become a great power as the Zulu I fear I might have to cheat a little bit at first though.

ahh podcat, It is my understanding (Correct me if Im wrong) that cheating in vicky will backfire because of the complicated global market system, at least giving yourself extra cash should

I think tech level and research speed is probably a bigger issue for the zulu than cash, you only have 100 years to work with and start pretty low on the ladder . injecting money would screw with the economy, but probably much like counterfeiting it hurts the world as a whole but benefits the counterfeiter

but I'll of course try and see how far I can get without any such shenanigans.

I like playing as Portugal. You have a couple of provinces in Africa at the beginning and can start colonizing immediately, which is really fun! (Free provinces anyone?)
