With the angle they are rolling with, it seems more likely that the leaders might be less individuals, but more like how we would treat our hands.
Maybe, but they're explicitly called autonomous drones. I presume the non-autonomous drones are like our hands while the other ones are actually at-least semi-independent sapient beings.

I would assume the worm in waiting would likely have a hivemind unique choice that would i assume imediatly end the quest as any pops that get etgao shifted will be auto purged so the quest would kill your entire population on completion

I think that's exactly how this will be handled. Some quests will just stay as they are, while others will simply be axed early/gain alternative text/be unavailable to hive minds.

Pretty much. No doubt 'hive mind event pack' will pop up on the workshop fairly quickly to retrofit sensible options into existing events.

The sad truth is that Hiveminds shouldn't have been implemented in Utopia, since they seem to be a small, not very fleshed out, part of this expansion, but rather in a later DLC that would actually be only about them, with its own complex mechanics and events that would haver made playing them a completely different experience than normal empires (much like the nomadic government in CK2).

I agree.

The sad truth is that Hiveminds shouldn't have been implemented in Utopia, since they seem to be a small, not very fleshed out, part of this expansion, but rather in a later DLC that would actually be only about them, with its own complex mechanics and events that would haver made playing them a completely different experience than normal empires (much like the nomadic government in CK2).
Wiz has made a point in repeating that some mechanics may be unlocked by more than 1 DLC (EU4 works like that), so we may still get a Hive Mind DLC in the future, with the basic one for Utopia owners and expanded one for a hypothetical Hive Mind DLC.

They get no influence from factions (and most of influence gain overall was moved to factions), but they gain extra +1 base, according to various info from the Devs.

How are hiveminds going to handle quests that involve individuals? Like the Worm in Waiting in particular?
Autonomous drones were obviously added (deep into the lore) in order to make the leaders work like all other empires:
Including Uniqueness (traits are not inherited), limited lifetime, ability to die, being used as the leader in Quest Texts.
Certain rules about leaders have been established in the earliest phases of game design, and now even the Hivemind has to follow those rules.

Questchoices had to be reworked for the new Authority, Civic and Ethic System anyway. When reworking it anway, they could as well work Hiveminds into it.
Hivemind is both a Ethic, a Government form and a Species trait. This was propably done so it would lock out against all others on either of those 3 levels.

Not every quest decision must make sense for every Government Form either.
For example, the "Lone Comet" Event always did nothing for Materialists.
For all other Ethics it was a god of bad omen. For Materialists it was "just a comet".

They get no influence from factions (and most of influence gain overall was moved to factions), but they gain extra +1 base, according to various info from the Devs.

pretty sure wiz or someone said that hiveminds typically will have less influence, but have more at the start.

Sorta-related question: What does influence even mean for hive minds? Plus aren't they immune to influence shortage due to their immunity to unhappiness?
Could represent mental/psionic strain from interstellar expansion? If you're setting up new mental nodes over the distance of light years, I imagine rapid expansion could cause quite the headache.

I would assume this isn't the case as that would be broken but, Since the hive mind we are getting is a centralised organism and all the pop's are just extensions of it's self, does that mean that if the hivemind homeworld is captured the entire species would die out as currently hivemind pops die in non hive mind governement and non hivemind pops are killed in hiveminds.
This would mean that technically when the hiveminds homeworld is captured and the hivemind core is destroyed that all the drones would die as the entity that was sustaining the hivemind would be dead?
By this logic hivemind planet's cannot be liberated. Also hivemind presumably cannot invade primitive worlds unless they also move pops there.
