This is an ugly little mod I made that enables some more options for hive minds:
  • More policies/Species Rights Management: Hive minds can now set some additional policies, for instance to keep other species around as slave labour.
  • Robotic technology path: Hive Minds can now get robot technologies.
  • Synthetic Ascension: Hive Minds can now upload themselves into enormous databanks from which they control remote-controlled drones. The new pops are synthetic bodies like the base event, but they get the hive mind trait. Only a player-run hive mind is able to go this path.
The only major issue is that the robot technologies have a very poor implementation. Just removing the ethic_hive_mind blocker in the technology file wasn't enough to get the game to spawn them in. As I couldn't figure out how to get the game to spawn them in naturally, an event should fire off every now and then to enable the next robot technology. If anyone knows how to get it to spawn the technologies normally, please let me know. If you want to speed up robot technology gain, use the console command "event hivemindmod.1", otherwise the MTTH is 200 months.
Be careful about actually building robots/droids/synths before you ascend. As-is they will not be integrated into the hive mind, and you'll have to deal with their dissatisfaction without being able to use the faction system. I recommend either not building any robots before you ascend, or being ready to purge a population of irate synths after you do.

This mod is likely incompatible with anything that affects policies, utopia ascension events, and species rights, but the other changes shouldn't be intrusive.
