Hi

I played my first hive game today and was totally excited that I won my fist war against my direct neighbour... I was able to annex all 4 planets... was that clever? Pop will be purged in 10 years and my species can not live in those worlds exept on one with 60% ... will the others be lost?

Thanx

I fought against a hivemind. I made them my tributary by force. I guess tribute and vassalage is the best way to go against hiveminds. And in reverse the best way as hivemind would be to subjugate other civs as vassals and tributaries.

The funny thing was, this hivemind had invited me to attack a common rival. They took several planets from them, turned unfriendly towards me, revoke our defensive pact. They pissed me off. Also they shrank from 10 to 6 planets. So, it was all in vain for them. Just had my revenge on them by declaring war and made them my tributary.

TLDR: Yes, your conquered systems will be lost, once the foreign civs are purged. Unless you send droids on those planets or build frontier outposts in those systems - which seems too costly, in my opinion. (Note: the idea with the droids is a hypothesis, not actually proven by me.)

Frontier outposts currently get deleted when purges finish from what I've seen, so even that won't help you.

i've noticed that if you care about diplomacy it's usually better to vassalize(at least for me this option was available). then you will not get penalty for purging.
but if you cede you'll get hundreds of food per month and it'll boost your growth heavily(but you'll be able to do diplomacy with xenophobes and some authoritarians only)

will the others be lost?
yep. gene modification is a way to solve it though

(Note: the idea with the droids is a hypothesis, not actually proven by me.)
it works fine. but you need at least 40% habitability to resettle

as a hive do I relay on hability? Normally this touches happiness and the possibility to colonize...so as long as we are over the 40% this should be normal planets...

Doesn't it affect population growth too? So the pops may work at full efficiency but will just grow more slowly.

But if you do have pops who can live there annexure is the best thing ever. Just move one pop into each planet and you have fully developed worlds ready to go with absolutely no unrest.

Things I'll have so gonna have to try now:
1. Vassalize a Hive, and feed them planets they can't colonize.
2. Release them from vassalage when they start integrating people into their hive, and see if I can liberate a planet of theirs. Also see if they keep the traditions/perks. Then annex their planets so I can colonize them with "proper" people after they die off.

I will suffer no xenos in my Republic of mechanized ROMANS. (militaristic, egalitarian, materialist) :D

Yea, at the end of my Hive Mind game I had -1000 relationship penalty since I kept eating all the other species. I had just defeated the unbidden and had an (un)fallen empire declare war on me, then I won with 40% worlds captured before the end of that war.

Luckily I chose +20% habitability as one of my racial traits, so I never had the problem of not being able to move my population around. It did take around 65 influence (or 100 if that other planet is full since I had to move 2 pops) for each captured planet, so I was always influence starved near the end.

As I've found it, there are basically four ways to play hive mind.. at least until you get biological ascension and can start stripping people of their free will in a way which is totally better than eating them but not really.

Purifiermind: Conquer and eat everyone. Rack up opinion penalties, everyone is super mad and hates you but who cares, eat them too. Basically, you just play like a fanatic purifier.
Pacifistmind: Focus on peaceful expansion in the early game. Later on, with habitats and ringworlds you can still easily become the galactic supower now while occupying only a small proportion of the map, or you can transition to one of the other playstyles.
Vassalmind: Vassalize small empires while they're still small, then use their CBs to break up bigger empires into smaller empires you can vassalize.
Federationmind: Get diplomatic ideas traditions fairly early and form a federation with a like minded empire. Use your allies liberation CB on other empires and add them to the federation. Has the advantage over vassalmind that you can keep expanding like this forever, but at the cost of giving over some control to silly AIs who will invariably do silly things.
