Hi,

Like subject states, when you hit the <pause> button (by mistake) while the game options menu is up, the game crashes to the desktop.

Normally, you should no do (or need to do this), but from time to time I tend to hit it in the spurr of the moment. Like when I save, I usually have already paused the game. However, sometimes I forget it, and press <pause> while the options screen is up.

I can't duplicate this with 1.05. I mean, the game stops as soon as you hit the "menu" button anyway, but with that screen or the options screen up, I can hit Pause or click on the pause on the screen with no effect, good or bad.

You're right.

I can't reproduce it now either, at least not directly. What I can reproduce, however, is the crash when you hit <pause> in the save game dialog.

You first get a Windows modal box with <abort>, <retry>, <ignore>. It doesn't matter what option you choose, afterwards the game terminates.

Come to think of it, when I had a few of these crashes, the <pause> in the save game box was the first one. I restarted the game immediately, without a reboot. I guess the subsequent CtD's via the <pause> key may have been caused indirectly through the first one, probably with Windows or DirectX in an inconsistent state.

You are right, it looks like the Pause key actually inserts an exotic chanracter in the save game name string, which the disk routines (of Windows, probably) can't handle and you get the error. It would only happen with a text entry screen open.

Do you actually want me to log this as a bug? It doesn't seem like a very likely thing for people to do ... anyone else done this, by accident or design?

Well, technically it would be a bug, but I agree with you that it is a rather unusual sequence of keystrokes.

Come to think of it, the <pause> key interferes with the actual saving as well. I had that happen once a couple of days ago. I had picked the filename, hit save, and during saving I pressed <pause>. Well, the save wasn't actually made, but I did end up in the Windows Desktop.

I guess we have to stay clear of the <pause> key when a save sequence is underway.
