as long as graphic mods wont change the checksum so we can get achievements with them (like in eu4) I'll be fine

On the subject, do graphics mods, such as flag mods, to pick an example at random, block Ironman mode?
Honestly.... don't you have other problems than that? It's just rediculous.
Seeing Hitler or not won't change anything about the game mechanics or how the AI will behave. Ok, if you are in love with that Austrian loser it may make a difference if HOI4 is the only way you are able to get a look at him but for the rest of the people playing the game it will make no difference if there is a picture of Adolf Hitler or one of Charlie Chaplin depicting "The Great Dictator" for example.

Is it really necessary to spell out that having Hitler, of all people, blanked out like a stripper's nipples in 60s Soho might affect immersion for some people in a game focused on WW2? Myself included.

the reason why Hitler and other prominent nazis are blacked out is not necessarily because of national censorship laws (indeed since many countries now consider games a form of art, censors are very much relaxed- especially with historical games), PDS is just self-censoring to cover their asses. it's safe, smart, and easy to get around because they aren't really breaking any laws to begin with. TBH it really wouldn't surprise me if; since the german version is censored; the uncensored files would come with the game in DLC format.

As I said, they have the capability to do it, it just depends on how stringently it is applied (by Steam). Personally I doubt that it will be hard to get the uncensored Version but I still find it tedious.
I don't see the problem. I bet any Germans would find a way around it. Like download the image from the internet or something. But this is a clever way of doing it, much better than to replace him with some generic one.

I'm just waiting for a mod that will remove all the portraits and replaces them with anime girls and replace all tanks the will look like thomas tank engine .
I still want that sweet sweet Panzermadels total conversion tho.

Its not that important, but in a relatively historically accurate WW2 game it is still infuriating that the most important person in the game has to be portrayed as a black cloud because the German Censors think that a picture of Hitler will provoke a second holocaust.

Wait, I know about the law in Germany regarding Nazi material, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing pictures of Hitler in Newspaper articles, books, and other media. Why would it be banned specifically from games.
Because in German law, video games are no works of art or adult hobby, they are defined as childrens toys.
