Why would it matter? We are playing a power higher then the leader of a country...more like the war god of the country...who pulls the strings on everybody and everything. Hitler is a nobody comparted to the power I wield over Germany

The way I see it, when you play HOI you are the leader, and events like this would add immersion and flavor, without which the game becomes dull after a while. Not to mention if a leader gets assassinated, it could open up an event to the countries its at war at and they can decide if they still wish to continue the war against the new government. This would model how, for example, the conspirators in the July 20th plot planned to make peace with the Western allies after they took over so they could focus on the Soviet Union.

There would have to be more conditions than simply capturing Berlin imho, or else we would have what happend on WWW with American airborne units landing in Berlin causing Hitler to kill himself even though he is winning the war.

Exactly. If I'm not mistaken his vegetarian diet resulted in extreme amounts of flatulence and gas. One deli sandwich force fed or otherwise and he's done for. If it fails? He'll be occupied shitting through a screendoor for at least a week. Precious, precious time.

Just tell him it's the new synthetic Vegetayran™ meat they're giving the troops. To pull this off it requires the British steal Oscar F. Mayer from Germany and use him to craft said deadly sandwich meat.

It would also be cool to have the possibility of a coup or at least for the July 20th Plot with a chance of success if you start losing the war.

I feel like an assassination attempt on Hitler succeeding or failing is somewhat too important to be decided by chance. Maybe you could get an event at the 20th of July, where you can decide, whether to hold the meeting in the bunker (meaning the plot will most likely succeed) or in the main building (meaning the plot will most likely not succeed). And if the plot succeeds, you would lose some national unity, but your government would change, your relations with the allies would improve and you'd get a chance to maybe make peace with the allies.

If someone captures your capital with airborne units, that's your fault for neglecting to protect your capital city, and that should have dire consequences for you.

But yes, there should be more conditions than just taking a capital. Stalin wouldn't neccessarily have been captured if the Germans managed to encircle and capture Moscow. So I think encirclement should be a requirement, and even then, there should be a chance of the leader escaping to the nation's new capital. I see various things working as modifiers here -- infrastructure, air superiority, intel, you name it.

So even if you were massively neglectful and American paratroopers dropped from the sky and strolled through the streets of Berlin, there would still be a chance of a German soldier jumping out at them going "sorry, guys, but the Führer is in another bunker!".
