or how to thumb a ride on a Venetian galley.

Will it be as simple as plunking down your florins and moving your troops from Venice or Genoa to Antioch? Will you be able to buy or lease galleys from the sea powers? Will you be able to load you troops on ships while the ships are in port or will you have to walk on water to get to your ships?

What are your views?:)

Yes, that´s an interesting question..IMO the movement of a crusading party from Western Europe to the Middle East should of course cost a lot of money..

Who will supply ships for free? Certainly not Venetians or Genoans..They would only help out if profit was involved

Sorry I had to say that :)

Well I think I will just take the land rout to the Holy Land and collect funds as I go. After all being good Christians they should contribute to our holy enterprise and I should be free to help myself to their women, wine and gold. Naturally after I have efficiently collected the tithes I need from the countryside I am sure the Byzantines will be more then happy to ship my noble band across the Bosphorous and into the lands of the Infidel.

Wonder if you would have to pay your fare up front in this game. Most likely. So maybe there wouldn't be an excuse for the 4th Crusade.:)

You may be able to cut a deal.

Pay up front:
- cash
- promising to share loot
- promising to conquer some island (Rhodus, Crete, Cyprus or whatever)

At least it sounds reasonable to me. What do you think?

Promosing to share loot like Philip II and Richard I did sounds like a great idea. Don't know if it could be easily implemented in the game though.:)

You probably won't have to answer the call every time the Pope summons a crusade. But why not? THink of all the glory and piety points!:)

Well, hoping (and keeping my fingers crossed) that armies will be a lot smaller in CK, I doubt that I'd want to send my 2000 knights to die somewhere while my neighbour will plunder my lands instead. ;)

Only send 1000 knights and keep the other 1000 at home for protection. Besides you neighbor will be on crusade too. :)

If you control the papacy, make the pope "invite" your neighbour explicitely.

You could put it off and make excuses like some monarchs did e.g. Frederich II.:)

Plunder is such a bad word.:) Call it "getting what you deserve" or "funds raising for the true cause" and the world is suddenly a better place to be. :D

There will be penalties for not going on a crusade but they wont be too severe since many countries who were at war or had other extenuating circumstances were not able to go everytime and they did not crumble. At least that's what i assume.
