Italy could use a few more provinces. Greece, Bulgaria, Wallachia, and Moldova as well.
That is wrong. At least some parts of western Europe changed in on of the earliest map changes. From what I can tell, Only western Europe didn't change one bit (apart from Ireland and a few other exceptions).
Common Sense brought quite some changes, other patches did as well. From what I can tell, Only western Europe didn't change one bit (apart from Ireland and a few other exceptions).
As we can all clearly see, the region of the world in most need of a rework is Iceland. No chances since day 1! Disgraceful
It can not because of the engine. One day, they will have to change just because their engine will be outdated. The same way NT had changed Windows. The DLC-policy is making sure that we won't see EU5 for a very, very, very long time. Even said so by the devs: if we keep paying, they keep on making.
And how it looks and plays right now compared to 2013 is a world of difference. It could already be called an 'EU5', really.
I'll take a wild guess and say they are already working on it, in a way or another. You don't make an engine in 2 days.It can not because of the engine. One day, they will have to change just because their engine will be outdated. The same way NT had changed Windows.
They did add the Iceland tag and decision in some patch though. And while the island wasn't touched, the sea regions around it was...As we can all clearly see, the region of the world in most need of a rework is Iceland. No chances since day 1! Disgraceful
Number of reworks is irrelevant. If we made Scandinavia one province and added one at every patch it would have been reworked 22 times but have 23 provinces which isn't impressive. Quality of the update matters. You can improve ad nauseam the number or the shape of provinces in EU4, and shave players from 20 $ every time you do it.
Or you can start working on EU5.
Problem is, i think the first option is much less risky and much more lucrative.
I think the map will be fine after 1.23, since all the world will have been redrawn at least once, and sometime twice.
they're problably going to put a lot of new mechanics in EU5, those they're testing in EU4You can improve ad nauseam the number or the shape of provinces in EU4, and shave players from 20 $ every time you do it.

yepAren't all the map updates part of the free patches, rather than the paid expansions?
I see the DLCs as an important part of EU5 development. Even if the engine will be different ( 64bit halelujah! ), the mechanics will still be ported, it's not like you will get an empty EU5, you will get all these DLC features into one hell of a game, with one price. At least the good features, because probably there will be some features that aren't as efficient as it was expected too, so those will be left out.You can improve ad nauseam the number or the shape of provinces in EU4, and shave players from 20 $ every time you do it.

It's almost certain that we will get a free patch. Back when they first hinted at a new dlc people asked whether they have given up on free patches. The Devs response : we will still be doing them. But only after dlc. We don't count immersion packs as dlcEU5 isn't coming anytime soon, it's not even in the pipelines yet... I don't think we really need to talk about it here.
Anyway, what are the odds of us getting a free patch between Cradle of Civilization and the next DLC with some new features? Like the Denmark- or Hungary-patch?
Let's hope it brings something juicy for us map-lovers, too. It's almost certain that we will get a free patch.
