History cleaner?

If you edit your saved games, use Notepad++ (google it, it's free). Once you load the game go to Languages and select C, C++, or C# from the list. This will reformat the file so that you can collaspe certain nodes (sections) by clicking on the - sign. Makes editing the save game much quicker and it will keep you from forgetting (or putting in to many) {

You're welcome.

One thing to remember is that it can take a few seconds for Notepad++ to do this (@ 10-20 seconds). So it might look like Notepad++ might not be working (frozen) but just give it time. It has to look at each line in a 16 - 20 MB file

Guess I should contact a mod for that. I did previously but he's (Darth Tracid) no longer a moderator.

I think it would now be made a sticky... But you could put it on the HoI2 wiki...

Being a developer (project manager now), Notepad++ is use fairly heavy here for those quick edits or just to view code.

One thing I've noticed with the History Cleaner (though it causes no problems) is that certain characters (I think characters with umlats(?) in them) are cleared to ? after the cleaner is used. I noticed that:

Goring became G?ring and many of the Japanese divisions became
Dai 99 H?megun

And so on. A minor point really.

valiant, Are you using it to remove history from a AoD saved game? If so, It's not the Archiver that is screwing up the names but AoD itself. Lennartos already knows of this problem.

Check here for the thread and a work around.

HOI Archiver isn't the culprit.

I was overjoyed when I read about this thread, so I followed all the instructions and began downloading your programm. But this error showed up:

Component .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 has failed to install with the following error message:
"A failure occurred attempting to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1."

There's a dependency of .NET 3.5 or above. The installation (Setup.exe) looks to see if .NET 3.5 or above is installed.

If you go to Microsoft's download site here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7 or just run Windows Updated then select the .NET 3.5. This will install the .NET 3.5 on you PC.

thanks for the tip. I downloaded it. But it can not connect to server. It tried it 5times and then gave up.

You could try doing a Windows update. Make sure you check the additional/optional items for it. You're looking for Microsoft's .NET 3.5 SP1.

I just went to www.microsoft.de, then searched for .NET 3.5 SP1

If all else fails, you can google it.
