I saw the railaways of Romania and found it weird that all railways met at Ploiesti, instead of Bucharest.

And it was weird, it was also historically inaccurate.

This scientific study has a map with the railways of interwar Romania: https://www.semanticscholar.org/pap...nock/204223b56ee1a9fa47eb983fc326052587e81162

This would be the map based on that study:

Also, WTF is this?

The map from the study shows that this whole railway goes through Romania. There is no leaving for Yugoslavia then going back to Romania.

On a global scale, railways are inconsistants and innacurate by a lot in Vanilla.

First time I saw the map of french railways, I nearly had a stroke when I saw the Northern industrial heartland of France being nearly empty, low level and the super-important line between Paris and Lille not being on map.

Same kind of issues in general for UK, Benelux countries, Switzerland and Germany with too low density and quality.

while, in the other side of the globe, the best railway line is in Korea and Manchuria with the only one lvl 4 line of the world there (making of course way easier time that it should for japanese in China).

beside that, map is roughly correct for soviet union (still some minor inaccuracies but can live with it).

BTW, my modding team is in the process to rewrite the railway map from scratch for my mod, so if the devs are interrested once it is ready, they can ask for it.

Why the gap in the Temesvár - Nagyvárad line? Afaik a major reason for the western border ending up where it was was because Romania insisted on taking that railway line that ran all the way up it.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Looking at the map again, there were a lot more railroads built before 1936 that I missed:

The post World War I period in Europe in a very interesting one. It has as much content and things to talk about as the World War I itself, with everywhere except Western Europe being a complete chaos.

UK rail is essentially intractable for a game like this without making every square a railway given the sheer extent of the rail network pre-Beeching *insert look how they massacred my boy meme here*

Well, it's you're lucky day ladies and gentlemen! Mods are here for the rescue^^
Currently, we in the World Ablaze mod are doing a full rework of the questionable railway network in the game.
So far, most countries between Spain and the USSR have been reworked (Romania included).

It doesn't actually pass through the Yugoslavian province mechanics wise; it's purely a visual glitch. I guess the game just drew a straight line between the two provinces' centers, saw that it passes through a river, so it put a bridge there regardless whether the other side of the rendered bridge is in the right province. A telltale sign is that it drew only one bridge even though the rail visually crossed the Danube twice.

If memory serves, there is also a river crossing penalty fighting between those two provinces too.

A lot of railroads in the game are inaccurate, probably because of the balance reasons.
True, but I feel they could balance these things out in other ways without sacrificing historical accuracy.

I know that at its core Hoi4 is a strategy game not a history simulator. But it would be nice to have some historical accuracy when possible.

And don't get me started with "it's a game where it's supposed to be alt-history" BS argument. It's supposed to be alt history from 1936 onwards. But the 1.1.1936 date when you start the game is supposed to be historically accurate. The issue is that isn't. This isn't alt-history by player's intervention. This is alt-history by bad design.

Not speking to you directly here ^ but I saw this argument a lot on the Hoi4 forum. It's like the "I'm not racist because I have a black friend" argument.
