Historical Speeches as flavor element

Watching fan made trailers for HOI4 on youtube, I noticed how much flavor and goosebumpy immersion historical speeches and soundbits add for me. And obviously for many other people, too.

I think it would hence be a good idea to add those into the game in some way. Either as a databank in the main menue or better still as sounds played in-game when certain conditions are met. From the top of my head I get following alternatives:
- E.g. Churchills "fight on the beaches" speech once UK enters war with Germany. A Hitler speech when declaring war on Poland. Ect.
- A famous and strongly immersive, subtitled speech of the respective head of state once you start the game with a major.
- At the very least some speeches cut together when you start the game launcher, like in a fan trailer on Youtube called "Hearts of Iron IV Trailer [720p HD]". I can't post the vid here due to forum rules, but you guys need to watch this trailer, as it hypes me more than any trailer paradox released about HOI4 did.

I guess there shouldn't be any copyright issues with the speeches, so you could use them in your game.

Have the speech written out in the event, or at least the relevant parts, would be nice. I don't know about videos/sound of it though

Friends and me would play Wardance by Funkmeister during our tabletop wargames sessions for immersive purposes.

The first grand strategy war game i played was darkest hour, and i loved it.

My first couple of game were italy and german 1939 and Brazil.

Only after a long time I played 1936 germany.

I remeber as yestarday.

First I annexed Austria, than i demanded sudetland and got all czechoslovakia.

Then the game strated to play some Hitler sppech, in his angry tune.

It was an epic moment in the game, about the WWII feeling. I was very impressed

(Ps: dont take epic as nazi enthusiasm, i just talking about game immersion)


I strongly favorable for spechs playing in key momentos, maybe when historical focus are released

I think having audio of a speech play in the middle of the game could be quite immersive in some cases, but it could be annoying in others. I do think a quick speech when loading into a major nation would be cool, like some of the Civilization games.

Gotta say, wasn't too delighted when Hitler started waxing about the Anschluss during the load screen in BlackICE. Might not rub everyone the right way.

Was Stalin even a great orator? Hirohito?

A short speech and a wiki-link would suit most events fine

I like it! I'm all for togable soundbits! Even some smaller sized down video would be cool, like marching Germans in Paris!

Good idea that I would like. There are some great speeches.

That said, I can't see it happening. I can't see Churchill, FDR, Stalin, Mussolini, Franco ect speeches getting in without the H man. And I really can't see the devs putting Hitler speeches in their game for a while to come...

French here: as it is again the foum rule, i can't give you the video, so search for "discours de daladier" he was the Concil president just before the war and he was removed in 1940. And you can have the speech of De Gaulle or the one of Petain after the surrender.
