To be technical, the Germans had the advantage of the new ausf H and G of the Pz Kpfw III model tank (which had a much superior gun to the IIIE, even though Hitler wanted it with an even higher calibre gun [50mmL42 gun VS 50mmL60 gun], but it didn't get implimented due to a foolish lower-level production decision, and didn't get introduced until the ausf J saw production in 1942), in addition to the Fw-190a for 1941 Barbarossa. In 1940, they only had a few hundred Pz Kpfw III Es.
