If you play without pausing regularly, it is already hard enough to follow the evolution of your country/Empire that you don't pay much attention to various messages coming from far away...

But as said above, just make a pause and scroll back the log and you will get loads of info about what happened in those far away (and sometimes not so far away)countries.

Going back to the ledger. It is indeed useful once you have taken time to see what's in it (thanks Greven) and you know exactly what kind of info you need. Remember, if you don't pause, the things gets going while you are reading nice graphics and spreadsheets...
