Does EU keep a log of all the events that happen during a game? Is there a text file or something that has a list of dates when important events happened like wars and battles, civil wars, peace settlements and annexations, vassalizations, discoveries by explorers, establishment (and perhaps destruction) of colonies, rise and deaths of monarchs and leaders and so forth are kept on record? Considering that EU is based so heavily on history, it would be very nice to review what happened in the world while your country was growing (or shrinking), especially in areas that you would normally not paying much attention to (for example, Sapura's Poland knows little about outside of Europe). Basically, it would be a raw history book.

And if there is no such log, could that be implemented? I do not think it would be particularly difficult to add. In addition, if there could be codes added to each line to denote what the event was (battle, etc.) and what country was involved, it could be imported into a spreadsheet program for some easily sortable light reading.

Now that is a really good question. I second that, I would really like to see some kind of game logging system. If it is not in the original design then EU2 would work fine for this. If any of you all are familiar with King of Dragon Pass it has a really nice logging system.

The possibility of exposing the entire game map on maps end is not all too difficult, good chance It'll happen.

As for graphs -- rofler. There's more graphs / statistics / tables in the summary window than you can shake a stick at. Around 30 pages worth of various stuff, ranging from military info, to diplomacy, to graphs, to whatever else, you'll be stunned at the amount of detail that has been sucked out of the game at a particular time and summarized neatly for you.. You really don't need any of that sort of thing at the end of the game..

Nobody has made screenshots of that area yet, because EU doesn't allow for capping screenshots within that area. But trust me, you guys are going to have a field day over these stats.. especially bankers :D

Does this include the ability to see changes in the map over time? Sounds very nice already, though.

Nah, but you'll probably be able to see the entire world map after you finish a campaign.

Some examples of the stuff in the ledger..

Vic point, mission point, wealth, infrastructure, inflation, income, expenses, technology graphs.

Monarch listings, income / expenses breakdown, COT informatio, territorial size, loans summary, maintenance cost, various alliance info, a huge amount of military information and graphs.. such as losses up to this point - in detail - whether based upon atrition or combat and the type of units.. and MORE

It's insanely huge and detailed. Much more detailed than ANYTHING you've ever seen before in a game like this..

Yep, 'insane' is the word. :)
It is so huge that I think I have not yet looked completelty at what info is available there !
(You know, 'too much info kills info').

A lot of messages are displayed during the game but I think they are not saved anywhere.

Just adding to what Yndenwal wrote. Some months ago I decided to learn how to use the ledger effectively, thus I had to really sit down and play using the ledger as a support. And after a while it proved very good. When you are in the ledger you can right click and get a scrollbar covering all pages in the ledger swiftly jump from page to page. When you have a huge empire as Spain for example and you play multiplayer where you can't pause all the time it is excellent to jump to the ledger and look at the province list. There you see who control all your provinces(ie seeing if somebody has made a snatch at em). So it is probably the fastest way to find out what is happening in Asia and the Americas while you are waging war in Flanders.

Yeah, the history function in Clash of Steel was great. At any time, you could pick up the map and see exactly how each unit had moved in the entire game. I remember one time when the Russians disappeared one by one when my Germans rolled in 1941. I shattered almost every unit and all of Russia was open for me... then there was a new turn and the Russians were reorganized. It was extremely irritating to see the units popping up on the history map...

Anyway, enough OT. Sapura, you mentioned that you played the GC in about 10 hours. So, when one gets into it, it's possible to play through the game in a day? That's great news, because otherwise I'd actually be afraid to get the game... considering what usually happens to my spare time when I get a good strategy game...

You can play the GC in under 7 hours, if you want. Just switch to faster time settings. i.e. 1 minute in reality = 1 or 2 yrs game time. I don't like playing that fast though...

Back to Pole's and Dragon's original comments: So there is/isn't an event logging/recording tool? Sounds like not since it wasn't mentioned.

But, I REALLY like all the other data that will be available. It almost sounds like Sapura and others are saying we will get so much data that an event logging tool isn't necessary???

Sorry, I'm just not clear on what the actual response is to the original posts.

Back to the question. The historical log in the ledger hasn't been implemented and will not be either. However, you won't need it as there is a nice scrollregister on the map that features every important event that happens and you can scroll 'back in time' and see what happened years ago. No problem.

I think a log should be extremely easy to implement by simply directing everything from the message ticker to a text file. (I also think it would be a very good idea. ;))

The log idea is actually somewhat related to an idea for EU2 I had a while ago (I don't remember if I posted about it though - I must be getting old. :9)

Anyway, since EU is basically edutainment and will probably sell extremely well to schools, I think it would be a good idea (both for marketing reasons and to please us history junkies) to add a second message ticker displaying events from real history. This ticker could also be complemented with a second map screen showing an uncovered world map of historical province borders. Naturally, these features should be completely optional and easy to toggle on and off.
