Are there any plans to fix the Japanese historical AI focus? What I mean, is when historical focuses are set, Japan elects to join the axis. This leads to weird and ahistorical outcomes nearly every game, with Japanese troops landing in Europe and Africa to "help" long before they have secured East Asia. Having Japan in their own alliance much more accurately replicates history than having them join the Axis.

Yes, just like other majors their focus tree will be revised "sometime in the future".

However, some of your complaints are about the front priorities and battle planner which affects all ai nations. This is being worked on in 1.4. The volunteer system that sends neutral divisions all over the map is an entirely different subject.

+1 to Japan being more likely to create its Co-Prosperity Sphere than join the Axis.

(Another bizarre side-effect of the current state of affairs is seeing Zeros flying all over Europe.)

One of the main reasons I use the Vanilla + Mod. I don't like the Japs getting ruined by China so they decide to go over to Europe instead. Then this leads to a weird war of the partially undefended Japanese in Asia fighting the Soviets. All the Japanese units are on the wrong side of Russia, helping the Germans, whilst the Soviet east just walks through whatever land Japan took from China - even if they beat China completely.

They should make their own faction and maybe have a path that allows them a defensive pact against the Soviets with Germany or something as a side path.

Japan should have the internal feuding between the military and the navy represented.

Choose one side to receive most of the attention and make it strong at the expense of the other. It should also direct your foreign policy options.

Go with the navy historically and struggle in china and khalkhin gol but be able to bully the allies in the pacific early on, or fund the army's development instead and field modern forces to take on those earlier challenges.

This is just more of the bad air mechanics, and hopefully having aircraft stay and fight near home is something 1.4 addresses @podcat. Bad aircraft assignment priorities affects the Germans, Italians and Allies just as much

Strange, other than volunteers I don't see lots of Japanese units in Europe. They are usually in India or along the northern border with Russia/Mongolia/Sikiang. Is this with ahistorical settings?

I mention the gameplay effects because they really break immersion, and they have an extremely easy fix.... which also happens to be more true to history (which would make more sense for the "historical" AI focuses!).

You know I just played my first game as Japan, and after watching the AI insanity for so many games I was shocked at just how fantastic they are, I practically took over Europe by myself after taking China and most of Russia, opting for my own faction because the Axis isn't really a thing by mid game due to how poorly the German and Italian AI do.

Every game I play I understand more, learn more, get better, and... see just how many problems really rest solely on the AI.

Realizing everyone's been dealing with that for a year now you have my condolences.
