Now that leaders for retinues aren't hired automatically, I think it would be nice if you could invite a military expert to your court so you could assign him to lead a retinue.

Now the cost to invite a military expert to your court would have to be higher than the cost to invite a noble (which doesn't guarantee a very high martial skill).

If you're aiming for specific stats you might as well just pay a bribe and then invite them that way.

I don't think I'd like this option because it would supplant the methods of getting military leaders that already exist in the game such as rolling the dice on the "invite nobleman" decision, grooming one within your court, inviting, gaining through marriage, etc. There are many interesting ways to get characters already, which is a reason that the auto-generated leaders for retinues annoyed me so much - it got rid of the incentive to do any of that. Plus that fact that if every general is an 18+ general, than no general is an 18+ general (relatively speaking).
