[HIP with SWMH 2.3] Courtier Spam Temporary Unofficial Work-around

This is by no means guaranteed to work for you so please don't crucify me if it doesn't produce the intended result. Patience is advised.

The most recent patch introduced a strange bug that causes courtiers to spawn uncontrollably and cause the game to lag to the point of unplayability. Also, many realms had their succession laws reset to Patrician Elective, which further breaks the game. I was able to bypass this somehow by doing the following.

1) Load up a single player game. DO NOT select a character.
2) Immediately switch to a later bookmark. There is no one bookmark or range of bookmarks guaranteed to work, but in the 20 or so different times I tried doing this, the 'Richard and Phillippe' bookmark was the most "reliable".
3) Check on the right of the screen to see if the republics available for you to choose are in fact republics. If the list is much too long and includes Isis, try a different bookmark.
4) Once you have selected a bookmark that actually has the right republics designated as republics, pick the bookmark you actually want to play in. There are two things that can happen depending on what you chose:

Case A: If the bookmark you chose is the Stamford Bridge bookmark or after it, the republic bug should not resurface and you should be able to start a normal game.
Case B: If the bookmark you chose is the Old Gods, chances are this didn't work and you'll have to repeat steps 1-4. Once in a while, the gods will smile upon you and the bookmark should work. I am currently playing a game as the Duke of Aragón in 867 so I can attest that it MAY work.

Again, this is not intended to be an official fix. The real reason behind the bug is most likely much more complicated. Hopefully this will work for some of you and we can all enjoy SWMH with the new mechanics and updates before the next update comes out.

They removed SWMH from the module. Could they not have kept it in anyway?

+1 This trick worked for me. Had to click a few times to get Isis off, but then 867 is working like a dream again.

Okay, problem: When I load my save game, it starts spawning courtiers again. I don't know if I have to mess around with the starting new game options to get Isis off, and then make a new one, or what. But I'm going to go with the no-SWMH version for a bit until they figure it out. Sad.

Sorry about that I played one continuous game so I don't know what happens when you load a save. I guess we'll have to wait then. I do have a feeling they'll fix it soon though.

I've been working nonstop on these issues since they reared their ugly head however many hours ago as well as generally including more fixes and improvements, and the issue does appear to be solved. I've got limited testing manpower (myself), however, so it will still be some hours yet before a new release (and the release process itself is a bit of a time-sink). Nevertheless, never fear, gentlemen. Soon you will be seducing, dueling, and generally focusing your way through an SWMH-enabled release with even more goodies.

I don't even know how dumb this question is, but regardless:
Since the basic game got updated to 2.3 anyway regardless of DLC, and thus the previous HIP no longer worked, do you NEED the Way of Life DLC to play with the new upcoming HIP, or just the 2.3 patch?

I'm so ridiculously poor now it isn't funny.

Re: Loading a game.

Same method applies; open the load screen, but before selecting your game, select one of the working start dates at the left (Read: Ones with the proper patrician realms), then load your game (Double check what patrician families loaded to confirm).
