WW1 is covered by Vicky, Cold War by none. Hence the latter would obviously be more appealing and way easier to add. If you'd start a game in 1914, how likely would WW2 be?

I'd like both, but would prefer WW1, as you have more dynamic effects on history. Netherlands enters the war, then Switzerland is given Swabia.

Cold War. WW1 wouldn't lead to WW2, so the game would be fairly boring... Cold War would give you stakes in WW2. For example: playing as the Soviets, you would have a good reason to cut down on casualties and damage from the war; to be competetive against America. It would also add incentice for both sides to do a land grab against the Axis, which would make the end of the war more realistic. HoI2 had a Cold War dlc anyway, but it represented a hot war. Doomsday II would be a good dlc.

But WW1 is not really covered by Vicky, only mechanics for a WW1 ish occurance. There is no WW1 scenario in game. So why not for HOI? They tried it for DH, but it would soar I think in a new game.

As great as it would be to have a game that encompassed WWI and WWII, I don't know that it would be possible without restricting the player's choices to the point that it would no longer be a fun game. Knowing the eventual consequences of actions and inactions it would be trivial for a player to prevent WWII and it would be almost impossible to half way historically recognizable outcome without it being heavily scripted. The cold war would probably be a lot easier to work in. However, a stand alone WWI scenario from, say 1910 to 1925 would be a lot of fun to play (maybe even starting earlier and simulating the naval arms race). Both WWI and the Cold War present great opportunities for later DLC.

actually, HOI 3 already has a grade A world war one mod that is still getting updates even today- it's only real flaws are the limitations of the engine, meaning that pre-WWI is generally boring as all hell unless you're Italy, the ottoman empire or china (Qing empire and ROC). now if HOI 4 even has tag changing ingame, let alone a better diplomacy and/or espionage system, than the timeline can be extended from say 1900.1.1 to the beginning of the HOI grand campaign start of 1936.1.1, or even a fully integrated megamod of 1900-1950. now that would be a hell of a game! long and maybe grueling at some points, but considering how much derpage you could inflict in just the first 6 years of the 20th century (boxer rebellion, Australia, Boer war, etc.) you could fundamentally alter the stage of WWI. hell, just the second Entente Cordiale alone (1904) could mean the difference between the UK even being in WWI or even WWII!

and don't even get me started on the cold war. being someone who followed EvW religiously, I'd love nothing more than to see an at least playable cold war scenario (once again, requires several key mechanics found almost everywhere BUT for the HOI trilogy). until the PDS or BLL get one CW era game out the door, it's an untapped treasure trove for what's by far the best grand strategy engine out there.

Eh, a well played game of HOI shouldn't leave room for the Cold War. Only bad players of HOI, like Truman, Churchill, and Stalin, leave any other factions with enough VPs and war goals to make the Cold War possible.

As for WWI, if I fight WWI well enough, I'm making damn sure WWII doesn't happen. We are either undoing Bismark's work or turning France and Italy into German client states (depends on who I'm playing) that will never escape Germany's thumb. We will create a new world order that will ensure no one except the country I am controlling has enough economic clout to asset themselves in world affairs.

The Cold War. Normally I don't like asking for DLC before a game is even out but I feel safe talking about this one.

It would be fun to see the after-shock of the player's actions during the war in a DLC that extended the game through the 1950's. If we got to play WWI I think the political factors leading up to WWII would be unlikely to be replicated; hence there wouldn't be a second war.
You want to be careful though: don't do what Civilization V: Gods & Kings did and make the end-game twice as long without adding new features to make it interesting.

ah, but that's the beauty of the situation, no matter what happens, the stage is potentially set for a second world war. there's the historical ideology + charismatic leader + territory. or there could be some punitive war against Germany by any of the triple entente members and the SU, or based on what secret mater said, there could be a massive rebellion plus punitive war. there could even be what amounts to "World War One part II" if WWI ends in a bitter stalemate.

heh, if PI released a cold war DLC, that would cause HOI4 sales to do what titanfall is doing for the Xbox one in UK- ultramegauberskyrocket sales.
