So i just saw something disturbing from one of WWW things and decided to make an account to hopefully SHED LIGHT on it

HxifmiT.png

Why is hitler "blacked out" ? but the 3 other mass murderers of world war 2 are not?

I understand that most game development teams these days are getting more and more intolerably lame and stupid with political correctness. But i would hope that paradox would not stoop this low. Because on the heels of gamer gate people are tired of this trash and wont put up with development teams openly censoring history to make sure peoples fee fees dont get hurt.

But based on the image here. It seems there is a quite clear agenda here.

It's been explained numerous times that the darkened portrait of Hitler is only for countries like Germany that have rather strict laws about that sort of thing. If you have a problem with it, e-mail Chancellor Merkel, but don't blame Paradox.

I think a complaint would be better sent to Fuhrer Merkel rather then Paradox in this matter. Though it would be interesting if Paradox didn't self censor themselves and dared the Germans to block them and take the case to court.

Edit: Also if we are being honest, Mussolini's crimes arn't comparable to the other leaders in terms of scale. Im pretty sure Churchill is responsible for more civilian deaths then him...

The reason Hitler is blacked out is because of German laws. If they didn't censor Hitler, they would lose a lot of German customers because the game would be banned.

Look... It's easy for everyone now to get up in arms about Hitler's portrait, but none of us have lived through the Nazi regime. I understand the laws of Germany and others because it was a dark time for them (and humanity) but it's just a game at the end of the day (focused on only the war part) there are still feelings to be considered.

since HOI 4 is a historical game with a pedigree, based on a strategic viewpoint of WWII with the various war crimes being omitted, and being in an era where video games are now considered works of art by many countries (including germany), it's actually entirely feasible that paradox could get away with a totally uncensored german release if they make a formal request to the german government. they're just playing it safe, covering their asses, and censoring what little could still possibly need censoring.

if anything, they censor nazi portraits more out of cultural sensitivity than the laws themselves.

The US has the First Amendment to protect us from that sort of thing, IIRC the German Constitution does not. So the government can and does censor art. It's certainly plausible that a challenge could succeed, but it would be expensive and pointless in the meantime.
