So this is Highwayland:

At a population of 40k and 3 towns, with a massive 8-way highway interchange as the centerpeice, this picturesque middle-american region is facing a serious issue.

The main interchange - an 8-way pipedream concocted by a madman mayor - has put these humble people 8m in the hole and they're desperate to escape.

I'm that madman mayor. Join me in my journey to relinquish this debts hold on my region and expand into a utopia. Well, maybe a dystopia... I haven't decided. There will be an opia though.

The towns:
Godleton:

Where it all started. A bustling commercial center and pleasant surrounding neighborhoods. Not as many as I'd like, though. 8m in debt has stunted the outward growth a bit.

Theres the commercial strip through the center of town, fed directly from the highway. Traffic is well managed so far, but there are obvious places where problems will arise. The second 4 lane overpass will connect the older neighborhoods to the new area planned on the opposite side of the highway.

New Nogatoga:

A quaint college town. Far from the bustle of the 2 larger cities (I say larger but not by much) the spaced out housing and mom and pop shops surrounding the historic college draw cims from across the region. The new overpass was heavily fought, but in the end, the quicker access to Gordleton has started bringing in a lot of money for locals.

Poor People District and Pollution District: (Riverton (I'm Creative.))

The industry here is booming thanks to the harbor and rail connections. A swell of people have moved into projects around the docks to work in the factories there, leading to highrise slums that can be seen from New Nogatoga. Dirt roads and cramped living space combined with little access to education and police/fire services means life here is a constant battle.

Unlike Gordleton, the impending growth is not welcome. It means more highrises, more traffic, more angry people.

Finally, Satan's Interchange and WHY?! HOW?! 8MILLION?! :

This was build out of morbid curiosity... Could I? Should I? Turns out, I could. It can handle a moderate flow between these 8 crossing directions and does it pretty elegantly. Luckily the cims don't get confused or else this thing would have cars falling 50-60 feet all day. The cities surrounding it were meant as a stress test, built all in infinite money mode, until I got invested and it made me want to go legit.

I ceased my limitless borrowing, and now I'm going to try to earn it all back and actually play this region like it should be played. I'll update here with progress towards my goal of positive moneys. Maybe we'll learn something together.

The end.

About 7m to go, but currently crime is on the rise as my citizens lose happiness. I increased police funding slightly to compensate, but it seems crime has a negative impact on income as well so hopefully it evens out.

Considering re-zoning a bunch of low density areas to pull in more taxpayers. I won't be able to fight any traffic issues that a higher population could cause though. I might throw some hi-dens res in New Nogotoga. Traffic is light there.

Editupdate:

Done for today. Under 5m, but crime is consuming my city... Might want to do something about that... eh. Dystopia it is.

There's actually less crime in the slums than in gordleton. Interesting.
