Highway right hand lane has priority? How to work around it?

I think you're problem is those four highway interchanges placed to close to each other. Cars have little space for merging.

True, but also the place to merge, and the way cars merge.

Well, my mass abandonment is gone (just gained 13,000 just by letting it continue to run), but my traffic did not change a bit:

Personally I think you should avoid using 3-lane highway as ramps. Like in those cloverleaves, with the 5 trucks example, if that section where the trucks are coming from were highway ramp instead, they would only be merging into the right lane, i think.

Agreed. But in my examples above, using only one lane offramp merge, the cars would go only 5 car lengths and then merge into the middle lane, blocking the freeway traffic behind them.

I do have examples of 3 lane and 1 lane on ramps, just to show what happens. The one with the 5 trucks on bottom merging was to show everyone that the trucks block all incoming (from the left) lanes while merging (with the right hand lanes priority).

This thread reminds me why I haven't played the game in a while. I can't wait for the pathfinding and way the road is used in gets updated/fixed. Just way to unrealistic to see 4/6 lane roads to be clogged in 1 lane.

1) Having on-ramps merging onto a highway, shortly before off-ramps are exiting the highway, is pretty much guaranteed to cause merging problems. This is a real-world problem too, and why full cloverleafs are considered poor design. Although in your case, I think your interchanges are too close together.

2) When trying to resolve backups, try to analyze the "big picture" of where the majority of traffic is trying to get to, and see if you can provide a more direct "express route", which should reduce pressure on your main artery. Eg, it looks like a large potion of your westbound traffic is headed north into that NW district (eg, the red line). If you build an express route that allows this traffic to bypass the main highway (eg, the green line) it may help to reduce traffic on your main highway. (It's very important that such routes are actually BETTER, ie shorter distance, or traffic won't choose it.)

Indeed, as other have commented; faaaaar too many interchanges on the highway.

Highways are a quick way for traffic to travel a considerable distance, so only have intersections rarely.

I have no merge problems, all three lanes are used on my highways throughout. My intersections are few and far between.

That is what I feared. I just thought it would be a good thing to have cloverleafs everywhere.
