I'm a newb playing with all DLC and CK2Plus.

I was playing as Duke of Sicily, and had maximised my revenue from cities in my demesne. I was bringing in about 65 gold per year, which I was very pleased with.

After a string of conquests, I was able to form the Kingdom of Sicily. Great! Or so I thought...

Next time I checked my total revenues, they were down to about 35 gold per year. The reason? My city tax revenues from all those lovely cities in my demesne that I had built and/or bought upgrades for was now 0. The filthy ingrates!

Any ideas why they're not paying me anything any more?

How can I get my revenues back up?

Well there's the answer, raise those opinions up and you have more tax income.

So even when mayors have a positive opinion of me, they pay no taxes? How far into the positives do I have to get before they start paying?

Well you said your income approx. halved? And it looks like approx. half of your vassal mayors have a negative opinion of you.

My total income approximately halved. My city tax income went from about 30 to 0, and remains at 0.

I do not believe you. Unless your city taxes drop to 0.

Check your vassals screen. there ais a line next to each vassal how mach taxes they pay and in addition, this line is corract only after some time passed. After you form kingdom you consider to be a new ruler ( you rule kingdom 0 years). So, this information will look like 0, because in calculated taxe spayd last mounth *12 and they payed 0 to king last mounth. Wait for some time and information begin to be true.

They have to have at minimum +25 to give you anything, as I recall. KEEP YOUR VASSALS HAPPY. 0 is nowhere good enough to get anything done in this game. You want 50s or higher as a rule.

Hey, you think you have it bad, one game I was pegged with $4500 charge on something (had to reload multiple times due to me hardly believing it). Never found out way, got no notice of what it was. Thank god for those little piggybank mayors.

You probably inherited someone's depts. Which can happen. When your courtiers and vassals die(and you are their heir), you inherit their money, but you also inherit their negative cash amounts if they happen to have that :D

I changed my laws to medium city taxation and my city taxes are back up to about 20. That's less than it was, but still better than 0.

Yes. They dropped to 0 (not close to 0--actually 0).

So, this information will look like 0, because in calculated taxe spayd last mounth *12 and they payed 0 to king last mounth. Wait for some time and information begin to be true.

I don't think that could have been it, because city taxes stayed at 0 for a few years, and my monthly balance dropped form 5+ to just under 3 as a result of the 0 city tax, so it looked like a real loss rather than just an accounting glitch.

It is dificult to say what really happened. But one of factors could be major skills. It play a big role in city income. I had one Grand Major who payed me 3 times more tax from same city then other grand majors. He had 25 stewardship and good wife, which I personally pick for him befor gifting city/county. When he die income form that city drop 3 times.

I think you made a mistake in the first place by buying upgrades for cities. The cities will upgrade themselves as and when their mayors have spare cash. Upgrade only the holdings you own personally. To be honest 65 per year for a kingdom like Sicily isn't that great, you should be making 20+ each month.

You said that you undertook a series of conquests. Were these holy wars? Has your capital remained in the same place? Have you created any dukes? Are the cities in question still part of your personal demense? Are there any recently conquered penalties in any of your counties?

Those opinions are not too negative. At 0, you get 100% taxes. So everything above -1 is fine. Dont let people tell you otherwise.

I dont agree with this. Buy a harbour and a town market for each town to get them started, after that they will upgrade much faster.

Possibly. I'd keep an eye on them to make sure they're upgrading and if they're not then maybe spend out on an upgrade. You're probably better to keep city taxes low to give them a chance to get going before you bump it up.

I do the same, and often fund a university or two in my capital to get the tech progression rolling faster.
