Crisis!
The Chinese boarded the plane and confiscated a ***** copy of EU giving them the 1.07a version to decipher!
Will their nepharious plots never cease! Now Johan's hard work is about to make the bazarre's in Hong Kong! You'd think the US crew would have had good sense to format their hard drives!
There is a rumor now that they intend to print off millions of copies of the new game to be called Sino Universalis in an attempt to rewrite history. All game dafaults for China will be upped to level 10 technology in 1492 with manufactories in all provinces! Gawd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Latest update on the looming EU-China crisis !
My Home Office, The Mountain Empire (Rooters) - In a tense standoff with Beijing that has quickly escalated into the first serious foreign policy test of his new administration, Bush called on China to grant U.S. officials immediate access to the plane, its 24 crew members, and the ***** copy of EU 1.07a.
Emerging from a meeting with his top national security advisers, President Bush made clear he was ``troubled'' by the Chinese government's inaction so far.
``The first step should be immediate access by our embassy personnel to the hard drive storing that program,'' the U.S. president said in a terse, untelevised interview with this reporter.
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, on a visit to Paris, said he too hoped for a rapid solution to the impasse.
``I hope that an adequate solution can be found,'' Tang told reporters in Paris after meeting with Hartmann.
Recently, there has been worry that the Chinese intend to issue their own IGC to compete with Hartmann's own. Hartmann was not available for comment except to say that 'Things are delicate right now and I should reserve comment for later developments.'
American intelligence officials have already disclosed that a Chinese copy of the Text.csv file has been circulating in southeast Guangzhou Province. Having possession of the Text.csv file does not pose an immediate threat as gamers have been known to edit them independently. However, the recent editing of the file according to PRC standards may leave a mistaken historical impression among less computer-literate Chinese players. In the 1492 start-up, China is provided with level 10 technologies and manufactories in each province. It has also been discovered that China starts 1492 with Formosa as a home province, Dai Viet and Nippon are vassals, and China CB shields extend to Monterrey in North America, Cuzco in South America, and Kleves in Europe. Hartmann was quoted as saying that if confirmed, 'This would amount to a matter of great concern.'
In response to the latest news of the China CB shields,
A U.S. defense official said the United States would leave three destroyers in the region to ``monitor the situation.''
``They were scheduled to transit through there, what they're doing now is moving more slowly, loitering in that area,'' the official told Rooters in Washington on condition of anonymity.
According to EU Press Coordinator Heuszics, a scheduled news conference with Patric and Johan was delayed as of this time.
Diplomatic Protest Filed
My Home Office, The Mountain Empire (Hooters) - EU United Nations delegate, Kronn was quoted today by the Yu Tan, a China Press spokesperson, as engaging in 'inflammatory rhetoric that will be regretable and damaging to EU-China relations'. According to the China News Daily, Kronn was quoted as saying, 'I'm sure the Chinese would like nothing better than to beat us at our own GAME!! And they'll go to any lengths to do it!' Yu Tan went on to conclude that 'it is apparent that the United States and the EU community mean to escalate this regretable episode to international crisis proportions.'
Meanwhile, Johan and Patric have maintained a low profile, even cancelling a scheduled press conference. Hartmann was quoted as saying that 'they were wise to stay out of the fray as they attempt to assuage concern in the EU community.' However, a reliable source within the IGC camp has disclosed that Hartmann is furious over the 'Chinese debauchery of the EU platform'. The source went on to say that Doomdark and Hartmann are currently devising IGC contingency plans to ensure 'a faithful representation of the world circa 1492.'
However, it is rumored that there are apologists within the EU community who think the Chinese might have justification for tampering with 'the Western world view promulgated by the EU platform.' No one has yet emerged to claim a leadership position within this splinter group, but they are rumored to champion other unpopular causes such as honoring Slobodan Milosevich with the 'Hero of Russia' medal.
More evidence has confirmed that the Sino Universalis platform does indeed include CB shields in far away places. Most recently, IGC Gaming Security Officer Bib has uncovered that China has placed CB shields in Jamaica and Jaffna - both likely emerging COTs in any gaming scenario.
Resuming our scheduled news cast
My Home Office, The Mountain Empire - (Tooters) President Jiang Zemin on Tuesday demanded the United States accept full responsibility for the collision of a Chinese fighter and a U.S. spy plane and indict Johan for conspiracy to promote anti-China sentiment.
In his first public comments on the incident, Jiang made no mention of the 24 U.S. crew members of the surveillance plane now in their third day of captivity on the Chinese island of Hainan nor was the re-worked ***** copy of the EU program recognized as a legitimate concern of the West.
KRonn, speaking on behalf of the EU Forum Community, stated that 'After all EU is a game, and my comments should be considered in that context. To make a bigger deal than is necessary about a game that faithfully represents the world scene is ludicrous and any argument to that effect is pedantic.'
Some fractioning of the EU Community has been apparent with a number of members voicing opposition to the crew's playing the game while on an intelligence mission. One observer stated 'That is not fair. They should not be playing the game 20,00 feet in the air while I am a lowly college student studying all of 3 hours a week to get a passing grade so I may return to my Greek homeland as a rich and successful American.'
Others too mused about the ethics of playing the game while skirting along China's forbidden airspace. 'It is out of self-interest that these selfish crew members decided to play the game while performing a sacred mission for their country and I think that justifies most anything we do' said Drakken. 'After all, how can anyone put the game down? I think there is a basis for a class-action suit against Paradox for making the game because it undermines my self-preservation in this competitive labor market.'
Not everyone was so concerned with whether the crew played but rather seemed more interested in which nations they chose to play. 'Don't go there' was what Savant said in response to such a query after walking 20 meters of hot coals and having pungi sticks driven into his feet in order to be allowed to communicate with the crew. 'It would open another can of worms because you can imagine they played a European nation as all the non-European nations are 'hobbled' in the game. This could lead to further problems in an alerady ugly scene,' said Savant.
Hartmann concluded that any Chinese attempt to modify the game to their liking could be easily undone by DoomDark's EU Countermeasure Program. Moreover, DoomDark disclosed that as Johan is not a US national, any argument that the game was designed to promote US Asian interests at the expense of China would likely fall on deaf ears as the Chinese have not invested to upgrade their sound cards so as to maintain any sense of parity with US audio.

My Office @ Work, The Mountain Empire (Hooters) - According to Patric, Beijing has refused to stop editing the confiscated ***** version of EU 1.07a until Paradox issues an apology for creating what it alledges is a Eurocentric game that grossly distorts the fundamental reality of the historical situation in 1492. China's ambassador to the United States, Yang Jiechi, scolded Patric for promoting a belligerent attitude toward Chinese culture. When asked about the possibility for apologizing to the Chinese, Patric said ``I have heard some suggestions of an apology. But we have nothing to apologize for. We have a good product and the Chinese could benefit from playing the game also. It is only a game after all. But we are not about to accept Chinese demands that we patch the game so that China has level 10 technologies to start. It's just a bizarre situation to be threatened with thermonuclear destruction by a nation that ... well, didn't they use gunpowder only for firecrackers back then?'
Asked if the game was going to become a hostage to Chinese efforts, Johan said: ``The game is being played now to the benefit of thousands of players. We have a lively forum where people make suggestions and we do make changes to the game, but they have to be based on some actual truth, not just because some fan or totalitarian regime with thermonuclear weapons wants to have its way. After all, if we changed the game to suit the loudest voice on the forum, all of Europe and Asia would be Byzantine in 1492 and the Venetians would be 'resettled' to St. Helena. I think the game stands on its own merits and I invite China to try the Swedish language version if they find English so offensive at this time. They will not find Swedish casus beli shields in Tianen province nor will they, despite their distorted sense of reality, find Chinese CB shields in Skane.'
At the State Department, Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage conferred with Hartmann as to what steps the US might take to facilitate a diplomatic solution to the stand off. After the meeting, Hartmann was joined by Bib in a televised news conference where Hartmann was asked why the Chinese were refusing to give up the copy of 1.07a. IN response Hartmann said ``We've not gotten a clear answer. The Chinese seem to ramble on in these meetings about Eurocentrism and how all the Chinese generals should have 4-4-4 level ratings. Now they have said they want time to 'investigate.'''
Hartmann added: ``The longer this goes on, the more it has the potential to become an incident, rather than, as of right now, fallout from an accident.'' Johan and his aides were taking a low-key approach to their first foreign policy crisis. Johan did call a meeting of the original EU programming team and the IGC team to discuss appropriate countermeasures. It is rumored that one alternative may be to issue a Chinese language version of EU where China is reduced to one province and starts with a stability of -3 surrounded by East Asian enemies boasting level 10 technologies and a 300 year alliance among each other. When asked about this possibility, Johan dismissed it out of hand. 'It would be just what we wouldn't do. No way.'
However, this has not stopped a growing number of EU enthusiasts from editing their own text.csv files to hobble China beyond game defaults. One player reasoned that his game was made so that he could satisfy his self-interests alone and his self-interest required China and all other nations to be edited out of the game leaving just Persia in the game. When asked if this was a bit unusual he replied 'America is satan, Europe is evil and all other peoples I no trust. I win game always now. No more Venice coming to steal my carpets and pistachios!' But some EU players don't understand quite how the 'game' can be played with no opponents and still be enjoyable.
Latest news !
My Home Office, The Mountain Empire (Suiters) - There is reported to be increasing confusion among the Chinese as to what the EU platform is capable of doing. It is now believed that the Chinese understood the software as being some form of chronology-shaping device that could change the status of the world within the 300 year interval of the EU platform. However, they have encountered difficulties in establishing that the software is not what they suspected it to be.
Numerous crashes to the desktop seem to be the common experience of the Chinese intelligence information officers when they load the 'platform'. There is also some suspicion that they may have undermined their own efforts to steal a march on history by botching the editing of the text.csv file. Hartmann reports receiving numerous suspicious emails from PRC addresses requesting information about appropriate editing tools for the IGC scenario files.
Also, a number of suspicious threads have appeared in the Scenario Forum where 'recruit' posters request explicit details of how to edit scenario configuration files. 'This all smacks of inept hacking' said Hartmann. 'I am not about to give tutorials on how to create an alternative to the IGC for some ill-intentioned hacker.' Hartmann refused to say whether he believed these requests could all be traced to PRC operatives and simply smiled when asked if Johan's silence had intended to mislead the Chinese about the capabilities of the EU platform.
Last night, an Australian troop transport plane was sighted just miles off the island of Hainan. Several small assault craft were airdopped by the plane in international waters conducting 'scientific oceanographic research.' Several of the Australians, oddly enough, had been overheard speaking Polish. The United States has offered China assistance in investigating the nature of the Australian research, but China has refused such assistance.
A number of EU community members were asked what this kind of activity may have to do with the latest developments but no one seemed to be able to offer an hypothesis. Our reporters will keep you informed of the latest in this strange twist of events.
