If it doesn't do so already, the event a Hermetic Society member can get to use up their ingredients to ward off evil should prevent Demon Child attacks for a period of time.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Demon Child attacks," but what it does is protect you from demon worshipers' tainted touch power. :)

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Demon Child attacks,"

If one of your children becomes the demon child somehow , or , if as High Priest or High priestess of Lucifer's Own , you deliberately introduce the demon child among your children through Unholy Impregnation , then the demon child , between ages 3 to 16 , tends to kill off your other children. Pretty effectively and relentlessly too.

In my current run , as High Priestess my queen used Unholy Impregnation at age 41 . I waited until age 41 to produce the demon child , among other reasons , because I had other children I was rather fond of . By that time my other children were already adults , and I was able to give them counties or baronies of their own so that they wouldn't be in my court. And I made the demon child my heir too.

None of that saved my other children. In my court or not , adults or children , heirs to the throne or not , out of 9 children , the demon child killed seven of them.

And based on previous experience with the demon child , that is the norm ; the demon child will go through his or her siblings like a one -person Black Death.

Here are the ways that I know of to deal with the demon child ;

1 -- If your player - character is female , and you are using the console command , " Charinfo " then you will know ahead of time that it is a demon child , and female player- characters can get abortions. So far , I haven't found any way to kill a demon child AFTER it is born. The only sure way I know of to get rid of the demon child is via abortion.

2 -- reconcile yourself to the idea that the demon child is going to be your heir. For this you need Agnatic - cognatic , absolute cognatic , and elective monarchy or Tanistry , if the demon child is female. This is usually a good deal . The Demon child typically has superstar attributes and traits. Also , after the demon child comes of age , the child automatically becomes the leader of the Satanists , and in just a couple of years acquires enough Dark Power to produce another stellar heir through Unholy Impregnation .
Demon child / unholy impregnation are the only sure way I know of to produce successive generations of super babies / super star heirs.

3. -- Wait until the demon child comes of age , and marry off the child to some nobody in a far away land. For example , if you are kingdom of Castille , marry the demon child off to some minor Count or Baron in Scotland. Typically under such circumstances the demon child fades away into obscurity , or , at least , becomes far away Scotland's problem. AFTER the child has been married off to some nobody in a far away land , THEN start having children. I know , that means waiting 16 years to start having children........

But in my experience the demon child is that lethal.

I have never joined the Hermetics , so I wouldn't know if the Hermetics have a counter to all of this.

As far as I'm aware that event is pretty useless. You gain little prestige, lose piety, and sacrifice your ingredients.

I love the hermetics, though i wish these things were more in depth explored :/

It's not useless. As I said, it protects against tainted touch. Highly useful if you've ever had the unpleasant experience of being a target.

What? How??? o_O

They can get an event with that option if they have a difficult pregnancy. I'm not sure what other, if any, situations they get that option. They don't have an at-will decision to do it, though.

Yeah, got it as an option quite recently in my current game for the first time, but it's not a general option all the time or anything. (I skipped it. I didn't die or anything, but the kid turned out Slow, though there were... other reasons for that)
20190620081416_1.jpg

(Now I'm worried because I haven't had Demon Child yet, and I usually get it once per game and it tears through everything. At least this time I have absolute cognatic and meritocracy so I can play as them, usually it happens when I can't possibly... really messed up my Abbasid Caliphate game)

Oops ! In my current game the abortion event fired regularly enough for me to ASSUME it was a standard option , not a random event.

Now that I think of it though , I didn't get the option with EVERY pregnancy. ( I'm playing a Basque Queen with absolute cognatic , and wound up spending 20+ years in seduction focus. So there was A LOT of breeding , and A LOT of pregnancies. By the way , even though I created the demon child myself , I was pretty bummed when the demon child killed four of my children who were all children of a Pope I liked. I got a kick out of having children who called the Pope , " Papa " in a literal sense. )
