Good morning or evening,

Currently playing SoI and having problem with the heretic religions. They pop up in my holdings so fast that I am not able to convert them. How do you deal with the heretic provinces? and why they spread so fast? Currently I am dealing with ironclast and zikri heretics.

And are the rebellions the result of the heretic provinces?

Alternatively, ledger page 4 i think.
Anyway, you say you have Zikri and Iconoclast heresies popping up.
what is your religion?
Zikri is a Sunni Heresy, Iconoclast is Orthodox (but it might be miaphysite aswell).
Either way put your court chaplain in the provinces and make him convert the populace.
and yes the peasant rebellions are likely religous and cultural in nature.

Playing as Ottomans. I have court chaplain with very high stats but it takes incredibly long to convert one province. And during the time of the conversion at least 2 provinces become heretics. After the conquest of Greece, I even did not have time to convert the population there because the court chaplain is too busy converting the heretics at east side of the empire.

Not to mention that the ruler of egypt and whole middle east, south east Turkey has become a zikri as well, becoming Ghyasuddin Dynansty.

If heresy is seriously taking hold you could always consider educating your children to be heretics rather than trying to stop heresy.

I only had a Catholic collapse in one game. My leader and possibly others appointed anti-popes. Crusades failed repeated. The result was by the game end, Catholicism had disappeared from everywhere but Norway, and part of north Africa close to Egypt, where a European power had an empire in existence for a while.

Heresy often spread like wildfire during the period. A million people died during the Albigensian Crusade, an entire civilization - that of Occidental France - was destroyed in the process. Lollardry in England was a forerunner of the Reformation. Unorthodoxy was the greatest threat to the Catholic social order from the very beginning. Several Byzantine emperors were 'heretics'. So it should be a big deal.

Occitan, not Occidental. And Occitan culture, while perhaps not as distinct, persisted long into the 20th century, as my grandfather can attest.

Pretty sure Occidental France simply refers to the south of France where the Occitans live. It wasn't just the Occitans who died, everyone there during the crusade was under threat.

Also, the entirety of House Jimena has become Cathar in my first post 1.08 game, I'm wondering if the spread of heresy has been buffed a bit within realms.

I'm wondering if the spread of heresy has been buffed a bit within realms.

I wouldn't mind a bit of buffing to the spread, or more accurately, more events to lower moral authority. I find that in most of my games, moral authority gets to 100% quickly and pretty much stays there. Having a few holy wars lost here and there isn't really enough to lower it very much.

I think having bishops with immoral traits should generally cause it to lower over time. If the majorty of the churches in Europe are lead by lusty, greedy, cynical bishops, why should the moral authority keep ticking upward just cause the pope is a pretty swell guy?

Don't forget to prioritize where to convert first. What you really want to deal with are heretics of your own type (Muslim heretics, in your case the Zikris). These guys are just causing revolt risk.
Christian religions (such as Iconoclasts in your example), are all the same to you. It shouldn't matter if they're Catholic, Iconoclast, Orthodox, or Mormons, all that matters is that non-Sunnis pay extra tax! I never try to convert my non-Muslim provinces. It's only the Muslim ones that are part of a heresy (Shia included, if you're Sunni) that need to be dealt with.

Pretty sure Occidental France simply refers to the south of France where the Occitans live. It wasn't just the Occitans who died, everyone there during the crusade was under threat.

Occidental and Occitan France are two different concepts and overlapping geographical regions. Occidental means western France, so Occidental France is modern France minus Burgundy and Provence. Occitan France is the part of France where people speak Lenga d'òc (a language most closely related to Catalan and Piedmontese) which used to be most of southern France.

EDIT: And as far as I recall Occitan culture was destroyed with the advent of public schools in the late 19th century.

So the caliph just disappeared. There is no caliph anymore. I keep winning holy wars and increase the crown authority to 2 or 3 but next thing i know, the crown authority is at 1. I feel like there is not any sunni states anymore. Biggest muslim state Timurids are Shia. Gyasuddinids (Ex-Fatimids) Zikris.
