Of course, heraldry didn't really exist in Charlemagne's time, but it looks like we do have surviving evidence of a royal banner associated with him:

This comes from a 9th century mosaic in a church in Rome. As far as I know, it's the only contemporary depiction of Charlemagne with anything like standards or colors. I think it would make sense to make this the new Karling coat of arms.
