My first try to add some events in the game (still untested but i'll test them in the next few days if i've a chance).
Any comment/idea ?
Dunno if "flag = 1" (see "13 cantons") checks if flag 1 is set to true.

Unfortunately you cannot check for the flags in the trigger. Check for the reformation event instead:

The Grandson and Morat event as written will give the Swiss a big stability hit unless they are also given a CB, and what if the Burgundians are looking to tough to take on. Why do you only get Hans von Hallwil if Burgundy owns Lorraine?

Should keeping Calvin out affect whether Switzerland goes reformed?

My guess is that event will kill the Swiss in most games... Using the war command should always be done with caution (and a back-door).

This will also start a war even if they are allied

Very nice work on some events. I have a few thoughts.

-I'd like to see more 'outs'. If Burgundy doesn't want a war with helvetia they need to have a way to avoid it. Penalize them heavily, but let them get out of it. Similarly I'd really want an out on the vassage if I were Helvetia, although it might be interesting as is. My concern here is what if Helvetia is VERY strong and Austria VERY weak in 1494. And to be fair to the swiss, if you make them vassals automatically you ought to give them an event to get them out of it. I'm not sure when the date for the end of the vassalge was, certainly by the treaty of Westphalia.
-I don't like the wording on the empire strikes back event. Basically I think the event ought to tell you what is going on, and not the historical outcome of the wat/event.
-Shouldn't HAB get a CB on the swiss if they choose 'freedom' in the empire strikes back? With other possible effects (an army?).
-The 13 cantons event is VERY positive. I'd like to see it toned down a bit, triggered on peace, and perhaps on having overthrown Hapsburg vassalage (i.e., not a vassal). I can't remember if that is doable or not. I'd also like a second choice on the 13 cantons, maybe I want some religious unrest, instability and poverty!

I like this work and I do think it's good. Wanted to add my 10 cents worth though.

I don't know if keeping Calvin should be considered the sole determinant for if Switzerland goes reformed. From what I can gather it seemed that a lot of Switzerland was pushed towards the Reformation by Huldreich Zwingli. Maybe some events should be added for him to affect Switzerland's change to Reformed?

Thanks for the comments. It was a first try. I'll probably change the events as suggested (the Swiss had an interesting military history for 1476-1515, something I would like to see in the game - but the game can't mirror history either).
About Calvin : I don't think that his presence in Geneva was so important for Switzerland. He caused some turmoil and was even forced to leave IIRC, then came back later. He could have written his books/preaching anyway, maybe in Alsace or in another German city...
Cheers

I have my reservations about the "Jean Calvin settles in Geneva" event. I think that refusing him might have a (possible negative) impact on the Reformation as a whole. I would prefer to drop this event as a whole and make it a flavor event. (get a free missionairy or something.)

Would it be justified and is it possible to give the reformist/shiite moral-bonus from 1419 onwards? At least they had a much higher moral than their neighbours and AFAIC won their wars against Burgundy and Austria by courage.

They already have something like that, since they are just about the only nation that starts out the game with a "0" in serfdom. That means they are totally towards free citizens and thus already have a very nice morale bonus.

tanks a lot

Thanks to you all for the comments.

Lambert Simnel : you're right, I completely forgot the casus belli for Grandson and Morat.
Note that you only get Hans von Hallwil if Burgundy owns Alsace (not Lorraine), province 374.
IRL the Swiss took advantage of a revolt in Alsace to declare war on BUR. I find this quite logical, so I added another event which triggers the war. To make things harder for the Burgondian, I added a good leader as well...

Havard, Isaac : I'll add a back door as suggested, but for the Swiss, not for Burgondy (the Swiss declared the war, not Charles the Bold).

Isaac, about the vassalization by Austria : this event is triggered by another event (The Empire strikes back) only if the Swiss agree to this vassalization. If not (option "we will never give in") the Swiss player gets 3000 pikemen, a light stab hit and bad relations with HAB, but the vassalization does not happen. I'll remove the historical outcome of the description as you suggested.

The 13 cantons event is very positive indeed, but that's probably too little (think of 5 new cantons, or +60% land! I don't know for the 16th century, but those new cantons represent 27% of today's population). In fact, I seriously think of a manpower +2 and a tax +2, but no cash bonus.

But *ahem* Geneva was not part of Switzerland before 1815 (sorry - my mistake), they had a military alliance only. So I can't keep my "Jean Calvin" event. This also solves the problem "Should keeping Calvin out affect whether Switzerland goes reformed?"
It's ironical to see that the citizens of Geneva, who were so determined to be free from an oppressive church hierarchy, ended up establishing a theocracy... Could this have happened to Strasburg or Metz if Calvin had landed there ? Hard to tell.

Sorry about the vassalization. The way you have it makes a lot of sense, and I don't think Austria needs a way to back out of adding HEL as a vassal or a way for HEL to free itself. It was the 'trigger{}' line that confused me, but of course it's triggered in the other event. You may need a sleepevent on the other choice - wouldn't hurt to have it in there anyway.
I have no problem with the increased manpower and taxation for the 13 contons - it makes all the sense in the world. Likewise amalgamation of the armies would add to the Swiss army. The part I didn't like was the +4 stability - I just think it's excessive. How about +2 instead?
I'd still like a Calvin event - the Swiss still had the choice of how to react to Calvin preaching in Geneva and could have 1) distanced themselves from Calivin and Geneva 2) continued with a strong relationship with Geneva 3) Embraced Calvin and allowed him to preach throughout Switzerland. Anyway I think it is a great event to add flavor, and even if the consequences are very small I'd like for it to stay.

I've posted the text of my events on :
http://www.geocities.com/phsacre/Sunray_events.txt

Eventually, I kept a "Calvin" event, but it triggers only if Helvetia does control Savoie. Historically, if the Swiss had been more confident and united, they could have captured much more Savoie land in 1536 (when françois Ier took over Savoie) -in fact they only took the Vaud. With Geneva and all the surrounding territory firmly in Swiss hands, Calvin could have much more influence in the area (hence the conversion of the province).

Even 101 (ie. Calvin as religious event) happens in 1540 + offset 4000 days, so around 1545. Should we dare to put this event forward to, say, 1540 ? Do somebody nows if this could change the religion of Schwyz and Bern ? Oh well...

I'll post the last events next week (not much to say about the quiet XVII and XVIIIth c. in Switzerland, but the 1789/1803 period is very interesting).

I've tested them all, except Calvin.
Cheers

end

I've added 4 more events for Helvetia on http://www.geocities.com/phsacre/Sunray_events.txt

This makes a complete file for HEL (could have added several peasants revolt during the 16th and 17th cent. but we have the random events already for this situation). Unfortunately, I can't find real "historical" major military leaders for this country (all good commanders were probably fighting for other countries, as mercenaries), except von Hallwil.
