Playing HoI2DD (no mod), playing as ENG 36 GC, I'm getting a CTD in March 38 when the Anschluss of Austria event fires. Every single time. The really frustrating part is the game used to run fine on the same computers. Don't know what has changed to cause this.

I've tried everything I can think of, including an uninstall/reinstall. Also replaced the config and db folders with known good versions from a previously backed up clean install. Still get CTD! This is happening on 2 computers, one Vista, one XP. I've run out of ideas. :wacko: The only thing I can think of left to try, is to play another country and see if the same thing happens.

Would really, really appreciate some help. Is anyone else having a similar problem? Thanks.

Well, this may seem like an odd suggestion, but give it a try. Reduce the game speed to normal or slower a day or so before, to try to get past that date, then put it back up if you do. What speed do you normally run the game on?

Did you start new campaigns every time? If so then I have no idea, if you used a savegame/autosave then just give it a try with a complete new '36 campaign and hope that only the savegame was corrupted.

Thanks for the input.

I normally play at FAST game speed. Will try slowing things down for Mar 38, to see if that helps.

I always begin with a new CG, to avoid a corrupted saved game. Investing the time to set everything up, then having the game CTD in Mar 38 is the most frustrating part.

I will post to tech support, if I cannot figure this out another way.

Btw - ran a 36 Ger CG and the fastest speed, to see if I still get the CTD in Mar 38...worked fine. So now, I'm thinking that the ENG 36 ai file may be the culprit.

Will post again, when I know more. Again, thanks for the inputs. Cheers.

or if you get desperate, you could just try a new game in 1939. or in 1938

those CTDs should not happen if the original game folders are vanilla, something must have edited your cd, either that or you are unkowingly reproducing the error over and over (assuming that you try to replay your game the same way again and again). it might happen. someone in another forum on this site pointed out to me that in manually typing up an event for another game (EUR) I forgot to assign a string value to a certain parameter by typing
Code:
name = "<the string>"
in the 8th event i created, i didn't even notice that!:eek:
:eek:
So thing like that can happen

Found a work around that appears to do the trick. I narrowed the problem down to the 36 ENG ai file. Some time ago I had updated the major power ai files for the 36 CG, with some I found on the forum. My solution was to replace the suspect ai file with the original from a clean install backup copy. Then I ran through the event, it fired correctly without crashing.

I will go through each version of the ai file line by line, to see what difference there is. Thanks all. Cheers.
