This is my first post so I hope I am doing things correctly. I have two questions that I would appreciate help with.

I am using the latest version 107 beta.

First - I have modified the values in the provice file (increased manpower, changed to goods to gold etc) inorder to make the computer players more powerfull and things work fine except that when I fight a war say against France, conquer several of their provences and then try to offer peace - the conquered provices are each rated over 100% like 135% and no peace is possible. How can I balance things out so that all the provices of say France add up to 100%?

Second - In the country files for say 1419 I assigned a unique unit type for each major country like 9411117 instead on 9403 and the computer controlled countries seem more active. What does the unit type mean and is there any downside to doing this?

Thanks for any assistance

For the peace values - perhaps not making provinces priceless might make them cheaper ;)

How high taxvalues/manpower have you been using?? (I think they are very high, but I figure I should check)

Unit type is an added designator to help differ different units id is the other one) and apart from possibly slightly higher ctd risk and cpu usage I haven't heard of any problems.

But you say that the AI becomes more active, is this lasting? (Does newly created units gain the same type, or do the revert to 9423?

I believe peace values of provinces are based directly on base tax value so you will probably just need to lower them and boost AI powers some other way.

Thanks everyone for your answers to my questions.

I had the income and tax values at 90. I was trying to make the AI countries more powerfull. I had also hoped in other cases that a province with a high income and low manpower value would encourage other countries to try to take the province it but instead because the value is high the successful attacker fails to get the province in the peace negotiation phase. I had hoped that the game would compensate and still value the total of a country's provinces at 100% rather than 5000%. After reading your answer I have given just the capital and two close provinces high income and manpower values then left the other provinces with low values.

As far as the unique unit type number per country I don't have any hard evidence - just a strong belief that it makes a difference - which is why I asked the question. I have not edited a save game file so I don't know if new units gain the same type. It appears to me that the AI for a country with a unique type is more active and fights harder at first but maybe this has been random luck.

I do notice that no matter what that over time the AI seems to slow down and loose purpose. For example I can get France to quickly conquer all of what is modern day France but then fail to move on Austria or Itally or Germany despite these being listed in the AI file as countries to be conquered. I saw in one tread someone speculate that the AI seems to fall a sleep?

Again thank you for your replies

Well, I'd guess that units of different 'type' get separate 'columns' when .exe is assigning cpu-space for thinking, or something somewhat like that.

And AI sleep - reloading every 10/20 years is by many considered enough to keep the AI awake. (My solution is to never have time to play more than 5 years :(;))
