I used to play Victoria 2 ALL the time, but i got busy and i basically shelved it, so i got it back a few days ago and got the DLC'S, and i have noticed that Texas is significantly harder than before, there are no up to date threads on the subject so i was wondering if i could get some pointers.

thanks.

Don't fight with the Mexicans, ask for Military Access and move all your starting force to America, and wait for Americans for help.
And hopefully the US Army will be there before Mexico annex you.
Sometimes The US army will go to the places like Colorado or Utah instead of helping you to repel the Mexican army in Texas.
If that happen, restart the game.
When you got Independence, you can do whatever you want since you are under the protection of the US.

I started a texas thread a few years ago that still has valid advice: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/seeking-advice-for-a-texas-game.834190/

My key points of advice:
  • Despite lots of save scumming, I was never able to defeat Mexico in the war of independence without US intervention.
  • Overseas colonies are your best hope for growth. Take Ethiopia, Korea, Manchuria, and other easy targets.
  • If you have any interest in expanding in the Americas, you will have to take on the US since they sphere everything.
  • Take advantage of the Civil War to begin dismantling the US. Aid the South to ensure their victory. This should catapult you to great power status and give you a handy local ally.
  • You'll find yourself in repetitive wars against the US and Mexico as they attempt to reclaim the Confederacy. You can beat them with careful planning. Use your winnings to expand into Mexico or (more wisely but not as fun from an RP perspective) take the US northeast.

I bet that really pissed Johan off. I remember reading something a decade ago that indicated he was a real fan of Texas in V1.
