I play Eu4 mainly for the achievements so that I have somewhat of a goal in the game.
The achievements which require you to be a western country, or somewhat close to that, are no problem. (like forming Italy/Germany etc)
The hard thing for me are the low tech countries on the Africa and America continents.
Like Sunset Invasion or a westernized cherokee or the Kenia one.
When I do try, I start the game pretty good and will dominate my continent, but when the euro's come they are so much better tech wise i'm having no chance to succeed. And it eventually leads to me rq-ing or never trying again.
I've read lots of posts on the forums already and there are some people who make it feel like easy.

So my question is, what do I need to do so that the euro's aren't that powerful compared to me when they come? Also is there a way to somewhat exploit the westernize thing? Like knowing where the euro's colonize first etc?

Every bit of help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Your leverage is your fleet.

If they can't physically walk to you, you just spam heavies and remove their fleets.
Navy units isn't bound to tech group, so you're ships is as good as theirs, provided you can keep up in diplotech. (Even if you fall a bit behind that can be handled easier with numbers than it can on land.

Aztec can realistically use its fleet to survive early. Kongo and Cherokee can't. Cherokee gets the reform decision though, so can live some fights on land for a bit. Kongo is sub-Saharan and shouldn't be having too many problems with tech anyway now, used to be harder though I did African Power when Sub-Saharan was still -2 points/month and 100% more cost lol.
