I have played a lot of EUII/III and HOI, but never really got into Crusader Kings. I need help understanding assigning counts/mayors/bishops and inheritance. My first and current game is as Duke of Connacht in Ireland. I only assigned my heir to be the count Earl of Kildare, but kept the other 3 provinces for myself.

What are the consequences of giving provinces to my other sons that are not going to inherit the throne? I have the notification that I have unlanded sons. Do you give land to all of your sons and then lose control for future rulers? Should I take them back with my new ruler to give to his sons and take the vassal penalty?

The next question I have has to do with inheritance warnings. I just took over Dublin and a warning came up that I will lose the Bishopric of Christ Church. Why is that the only one I will lose? I checked the fort and city and those will not be in my control (the will be going to the sons of the current leaders). Why is this notification coming up just for the church?

Finally, when arranging marriages, should I be worried about my dynasty ever leaving my control? is there a scenario where I can arrange a marriage that will change to line of succession to a different dynasty outside of my realm?

Sorry for the number of questions! Thanks in advance! I would attach a screenshot, but I use a boot camped Mac and my keyboard doesn't have the print screen button.

Unlanded sons (while under primogeniture laws) cause you to lose a fraction of prestige every month. Your first born doesn't even need to be landed. However, they do sometimes get frustrated at not being landed, and leave for another court.

The heir to the Bishopric of Christ Church has sworn fealty to another Lord. The heirs to the others have sworn fealty to you. This means that the Bishopric will fall out of your realm, while the others are safe. You can solve this by revoking the title, assassinating the heir, or really quite a large number of other options.

Finally, when arranging marriages, should I be worried about my dynasty ever leaving my control? is there a scenario where I can arrange a marriage that will change to line of succession to a different dynasty outside of my realm?
Yes. Watch out for Matrilineal marriages. This means that the line of succession follows the female, not the male. As such, heirs to that line will NOT be your dynasty. If one of them is your heir, you could lose the game. If you have done this by accident, you can fix it with a little murder. First, the spouse, then the children. Then, remarry the man to another woman in a patrilineal marriage (standard marriage).

This game can be quite bloody if you let it...
