Okay, I see everybody talking about the different MODS for the game? Which one is better and how do I find out which one I have. Most of all how do you download it. SECOND, if you have 1.00 do you have to download everything in between before you can get to 1.09. My game isn't accepting the new downloads for 1.09

No, it says that it's all done installing but when I get on the game it still says 1.00. What about the mods?

I seriously suggest getting it patched up to 1.09 since all mods use 1.09! Did you install the correct language patch? As to the mods, there are many. The main mods are:
- AGCEEP: uses the original map but adds much more events, flavour, etc to the game. Good AI.
- MyMAP (is with AGCEEP): my personal favorite. It's the only real mod since it has a totally new map. Only "downside" is that South-America is somewhat "angled". Just install it and look for yourself. It's real fun but the AI underperforms somewhat.
- Watk: uses a modified map and is currently the standard in MultiPlayer. AI however underperforms a lot, little attention was paid to economics, etc... of provs. Still, also a lot of fun.
- Fantasia Universalis: you can create a totally new map without the historical events

And many more...

How do you know which language patch it is?

...which language is the game writing out? That's probably your patch.

First, we do need to get it out of 1.00. What exactly are you doing to up it to 1.09?

Download the file. It's a zip file I believe.
Unzip the file. This creates an .exe called eu2_109
Run the application. When it asks for a folder/place to install, select the main folder (ex: C:/Program Files/Europa Universalis 2) of the 1.00 game. Then hit okay.

That should bring you to 1.09.

Now...mods: Have you done much with the Vanilla (basic) game? It's a great place to learn the game and it's not bad at all.

That said...alot of people like AGCEEP. Lots of historical events and some AI buildup.

MYMAP is a different map with more provinces. It had some early... issues... that I understand have been worked out. Worth a looksee. MYMAP AGCEEP is okay, though I hear the events are dated compared to the current AGCEEP version.

WATK is another different map with lots of new provinces. Personally I think it looks better than MYMAP. As another person said though, the AI seems to be weak. It uses the vanilla events with little-if-any compensation for the different map.

I like EP (Europa Portugalis), but I don't recommend it for a new player because the AI is HEAVILY strengthened. I hear even veteran players find it a challenge. Still, of all the mods EP seems to develop the most historically (even over AGCEEP) and you'll never be bored.

There are other scenarios out there covering different time periods: 476 starts right before the fall of the Roman Empire. Age of Imperialism (AoI) goes from 1337-1913. Go with what you think you'd like.

Many people probably just accept the default here without reading it carefully; make sure it is actually pointing to where YOU have the game installed. The default is not correct for every publisher's version of the game.

It's in English. By the way, I'm not a beginer. Thanks for the help, I think what I did was just let it install wherever it wanted too and then it just went there.

Almost certainly you have leftovers in your registry from previous EU2 installations in different directories, and the 1.09 .exe finds them and installs there. I suggest you uninstall EU2 completely including registry entries (see here for instructions), move your valued save games elsewhere first.

Then defrag your hard disk install EU2 then 1.09 immediately. Make sure it runs OK, only then try any modded versions you want.
