I have been struggling to get the grips of this game, my main problem is fleet compositions, here is a brief explanation.
I have played 5 or so games until 2450 more or less. When dealing with other normal empires pretty much any fleet could/is viable, that doesn't make them efficient, and that is what I am looking for. You see, first you get the usual normal neighbor who needs some headbashing, no prob, you send corvettes and destroyers since by that time your tech doesn't really allow much else, unless you drag the game. Then you get the huge monsters like ether drake, dreadnought etc etc... well to my surprise i found corvettes much more efficient due to how evasion works. Then I had events such as L-Gate nanite armies and Unbidden... and by far a corvette fleet equipped with phasers and missiles are much much more efficient than anything i could think of... No luck going against FE yet. But the problem remains, I can't think of a good reason/circumstance/ship design to use cruisers and battleships which I so very much want.

Am i mistaken? Please tell me I am wrong.

Cruisers and Battleships are great for range and staying power. The large weapon slots also have exclusive tech that is leagues ahead of other stuff.
Otherwise, their section combinations can make for great versatility.

the problem is probably that when you experiment with cruisers and battle ships you build both but when you experiment with corvettes you just build those.

mixed fleets are gimped because of how the targeting works, having mono fleets means damage is pread across the whole fleet whereas having mixed fleets means all the damage is spread across one type of ship at a time which means they die quicker.

so next time try an all battle ship fleet and see how that compares to your corvette fleet.
