I decided to take the plunge and move off vanilla HOI into Stony Road. I reinstalled HOI (vanilla v1.02 from CD English-Asia from Typhoon) for clean fresh install. Then I patched up to v1.04 English-Asia. Tested to work fine. Next I installed Stony v0520 on top.

When I started the default scenarios, I noticed that the sprites were wrong. The Me109s were displayed as Fw190s. And Hs132 biplanes were displayed as Me109s instead. Similarly, Brit Gladiators were displayed as Spitfires. Tank sprites seemed fine.

I installed everything with defaults and no error/warning msgs were produced during installations.

Where did I go wrong?:D

You didn't.
This has been discussed before. The problem is HoI allows four levels of sprites only for tanks, three for planes. So you have THREE models free to display the whole development and modelseries of the Luftwaffe or RAF.
Stony Road installs some other sprites there by default.
You can choose NOT to install the problematic sprites if you like next time by going "custom"

Ta, N!ghtY. I had seen the sprites' option in the custom install but I didn't want to turn off anything unless the problem cannot be fixed. I would like to ask you why the new 109 sprite was assigned to the He, and the new 190 was assigned to the 109 (ie why can't the new 109 be assigned to the 109 and the He be left as original) but if you can point me to the previous discussion thread, I will be happy to read up and not bother you :D I had tried looking by using the search function before I opened this thread but I could not find anything remotely close to the problem. :D Perhaps the keywords were wrong...
