Hey folks,

I get a weird map bug with the Steam version of CKII (TOG bundle sold by Koch Media, bought in Germany):

A colored (terrain) layer is not properly aligned - but instead offset somewhat to the left, giving silhouettes of coast lines/countries all over the place. This is especially annoying in terrain map mode. For example, I can clearly see the shape of the Black Sea covering up most of the Carpathian basin, and Italy and Greece can be seen twice in the Med.

It appears that the new, expanded map that reaches as far East as the Bay of Bengal is not "the basis" for that troublesome layer - the layer's "countries" stop West of the Indian subcontinent. Have checked the .bmp and .dds files in "map" and "map/terrain" folders - all have the same pixel dimensions. The troublesome layer looks a little "squeezed", though (e.g. the British Isles look "slimmer").

Have tried verifying the local game cache, complete un- and re-install, with and without mods - but to no avail... Graphics driver is up to date, so to speak (I'm running this on a Mac notebook in the "Boot Camp" environment - so I can't really "update" drivers manually if I wanted to).

I'd really appreciate some hints on how to get rid of this. Maybe there is some setting in a text file that can get fixed manually? There appeared to be some other minor bugs related to Steam installing the packages/patches/DLCs "all-at-once", maybe this is where sth got messed up.

Cheers

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log (rename to system.txt to attach). What version # and checksum do you see a/ in the launcher and b/ in the main game menu, when loaded with NO mods active?

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your reply. I am attaching the requested diagnosis/settings/log files as a ZIP archive.

Launcher: version 2.4.4 / checksum FUYZ
Main Menu: version 2.4.4 / checksum XLSM

No mods/DLCs loaded. So the checksums are different.

Thanks in advance for further advise.

Just did another re-validation via the Steam interface. Six files were re-acquired (doesn't tell which ones, though).
Checksum in-game is now QSMP (still different from checksum shown in lauchner).

However, the MAP bug still persists, unfortunately.

There were some errors reported in other log files after I quit the game - I am attaching another ZIP archive. A quick inspection revealed that in /map/rivers.bmp the land mass of Iceland is cut by the left edge of the map - while in /map/provinces.bmp the whole island fits on the screen. Dunno if this might be part of the issue.

Soooo - I think I kind of narrowed it down:

The problem is related to /map/terrain/colormap.dds (and probably colormap_water.dds as well). I replaced the graphical content of that one with just a single color and launched the game - map looks very "flat" then, of course, but this is definitely the layer/file that is problematic.

In a second go, I added the water parts of colormap.dds to the single-color modified colormap.dds. Then, the offset, misaligned coastlines are clearly visible again.

It strikes me that the whole layer is squeezed and ends exactly at the line just east of the Arabian peninsula - where the "before-including-India-map" had its edge. So, in that regard, the observed glitch is not "random".

The wrong checksum means you have a corrupted installation.

Please do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test
