I haven't played Serbia in quite some time, though I know there are various events where you can go to war with the Ottomans. The first point is the 1876 war, IIRC, and you can then gain independence. Independence and seeking a port would be my objective as Serbia - from there you could get some colonies without having to fight your more powerful neighbours. I'd also recommend having at least one GP as an ally (Russia is usually your best bet, though Austria would be useful too).

Aside from that I'm not really sure, since I haven't played it in a while.

Yeah,it was a pleasant surprise for me to see some important events from Serbia's history included in VIP,although there is room for more:D

About the port,i know it's important(as it was historicly for us) to gain access to the see,but we can only do so by fighting eather AH or Ottomans:mad:

Do you know how can i start up serbian economy abit ?We were an agrarian society until the end of 19th century, and it's very dificult for me to organize the economy:(

Thanks for answering my question;)

well with only a few provinces and a small population you can't really. any factory you are going to make isn't going to be able to self supporting which means you have to import and imports are going to cost you more than you will make. best is going to improve what you have and increase efficency through tech and with RR.

you may want to land trade with the OE with your tech to get some cores and pop back. There is a event when you and Mont. declare war on the OE and if you put up a good enough fight you get a few cores. I think you need russia's help and Austria will get all the OE land to the west of you and Mon. Hope that helps but I can't remember the events that well.

What type of goverment is serbia? if you have a small capitalist pop it may help to get a LF or interventionalist government. if you can pull a small profit over time it may beworth it to be interventionalist so that you can build Railroads yourself with the few machine parts you get via event or buy them off the WM.

serbia is a monarchy, ruled by a conservative party.it's realy dificult to do anything without cheating :p

Cheating is necessary when overcoming limitations in the game engine. A rebellion in Serbia against the Ottoman Empire wouldn't be restricted to the 3-province micro state, but the entire Serbian region, meaning both Serbia as a country and the regions of which the Ottomans are holding.

So what I would do is:

1. Neville
2. Get all the Serbian Lands from the Ottoman Empire
3. Roleplay it as Serbia getting more autonomy in the Ottoman Empire, or simply roleplaying Serbia as a province as opposed to a seperate state
4. Declare a 'revolution', therefore the entire Serbian state, which is 'newly independent' is in hostilities with the Ottoman Empire. Just think like how the CSA in the game is independent prior to the civil war occurring.

Of course you might know that Serbia has like almost no events in the game. So you'll have to edit saves in order to add cores and South Slavic cultures.

When it comes down to, this is by no means cheating at all, nowhere as bad as the guy who was playing as the Dutch East Indies and adding anything that was more than 10% of the population as national cultures

True, but I still wouldn't go that far myself. Wresting the land from the Turks and the Habsburgs by force is where all the fun is. And I'm not sure if adding other cultures would be appropriate. I'm not sure it wouldn't be either, but I would tend to assume the Serbian state would "accept" only Serbs.

actualy, serbia as a state was very tolerant towards minorities.many minorities fought the wars on serbian side.like a famous serbian general Pavel Sturm.he was born in prussia, but fell in love with serbia, and became one of our better generals, fighting the AH in ww1.

here's a picture of serbian soldiers, taking in front of a orthodox, catholic, budist, and muslim priests.

about the "cheating",i don't know.i want to see how far can i go without it.trading ottoman provinces with serb majority, seems a bit ahistorical, but there's no doubt, that in those times, the main national idea of the serbs, was to unite all serbs in one state.without the foreign power interfering, serbs would have been united long before 1918.all serb rulers in 19th century, were arming and preparing our army, for the final battle against the turks and AH.

Well i suppose you could make a event that allows you to start a minor revolt; you , montenegro , the two romanian minors and greece during the oriental crisis. Don't know how well it would work or how plausible it is but that would be a perfect time to strike with the OE busy in arabia.

VIP has a bunch of events for Serbia, the whole history up to and (IIRC) including the Balkan Wars of 1912/13. So if you choose the historical options in all events you should, by 1912, end up with Serbia being pretty much what it was historically.

If that is too much waiting for you, maybe you should consider the following things (playing with VIP):
  • switching to a liberal party with laissez-faire or interventionist policy, and promoting a capitalist once you have enough (>8,000) money, then hoping that he will build the beginning of a profitable industry for you
  • try to annex Montenegro during one of your common wars against the Turks (usually those wars are ended by event so you don't need to fear being wiped out by the Turk), they do after all own one Serb-cultured province. And you get one step closer to a port on the Adriatic Sea.
  • build a healthy little industry while you are waiting for event-wars
  • try to ally with Russia or --the horror!!-- Austria, and drag them into wars with the Turk once you are able to field a half way decent army... they will be alliance leader but as long as you control some land, when they conclude peace for the whole alliance they will reward you with provinces.
  • If somehow you get a port province and you still have good (+160 or more) relations with the Turk, do the "gamey Ottoman land trade"... conquer those uncivilized nations in Arabia and Somalia that border Ottoman provinces --Dubay,Ha'il,and so on-- and sell their provinces to the Turk one by one, in exchange for Serb cultured provinces in the Balkans. The Turk will happily trade with you if you can offer him Muslim provinces that border his land. They *MUST* border his provinces though! If they don't he will not offer a penny for them. Playing as Greece, I found this to be by far the easiest way to expand and get ethnically Greek provinces from the Turk.

I did the same playing with serbia in ricky (my only cheat was editing out the satelite thing). conquered nejd and abu dhabi and traded it for the balkans. later allied with russia and with their help destroyed AH and claimed all the south slavic provinces

The main problem with playing Serbia is that your national population bleeds out like crazy before you can rule over it. Same thing with Romania, Greece, etc. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future.

that's completely true.provinces that start with 80% of serbian population, are less then 50% when i get them.it makes me mad :S

anyways, for the people above, thanks for the advices,i'll try to learn from them ;)

but if you have something more to share,i'm still here to read :p
