re: problems

I am having a number of problems I was hoping som elong-time playes could help me solve.

1) when I take a bank loan, the amount of interest I pay increases forever and the loan is never paid off. I took out a loan early in the game (Grand Campaign) and am paying something like 10 ducets month about a century later!
2) I feel as though there must be more I can do vis a vis my relations w/ others.
a) I want to have royal marriage between muslims and christians
b) I want to be able to vassilize, but never seem to have the option
c) etc...
3) how do I create my own explorers/conquistadors?
4) how do I play as countries that are not offered on default?
5) I can't seem to get a multiplayer internet-based game started

ALSO...are there other patches that would fix these problems...I have 1.10 NA

thanks
-David

Carolus (the Demon [oops, did I say that? I meant God, of course!] of this forum) means you have too many only slightly related questions in your post to have it all in one thread. Most of them can be answered by searching the FAQ forum.

When a loan comes due, a little box will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. Click on that (I suggest you hit pause as well, so that things don't fall apart while you're handling this) and a dialog box will appear to tell you that it is due, would you like to pay it or extend it. Unless you can arrange to have the cash on hand (you'll have 2 months and one day) to pay it, I suggest you have no more than four loans at any given time. That way you can take out a new loan to pay off the old. If you don't pay it in the allotted time, or if you so choose, the loan will simply be extended, which will raise the interest on ALL of your outstanding loans. Interest rates can go over 100% if you're not careful.

Those little boxes also appear when another country sends you a diplomat, or when you declare war if you're in an alliance to allow you to call on your allies.

2) There are off course the traditional diplomatic overtures, like hosing money down peoples necks, royal marriages and so forth. But your relationship with other nations is also dependent on your overall actions, especially how agressively you play the game. Religion & tolerance is also quite important. If you have no tolerance towards the orthodox nations, they tend not to like you that much, and your relationsship will rapidly deteriorate. Thegame is actually quite intuitive with regards to relationships, and the exact game mechanics are not that important.

2a) You can't. Period.

2b) Make sure you have 1) +190 relationsship, 2) a royal marriage and 3) are allied. Even then it is not a certain deal. Your rulers diplomacy rating is quite important for example.

2c) ??

3) Unless you cheat (there are certain tools who help you make your own commanders), you can't. Either you wait for a random event, which is not that unusual, or you wait for a historical commander to come along (only available to some nations).

4) The Improved Grand Campaign (IGC) is the way to go. Extreme loads of information onm this abounds everywhere on this forum. Just shop around.

5) Well ... dunno about that!
