when i help some one by starting war using "press claim", they just become independent instead of joining me as vassals or joining as vassals to my vassal...

how can i do it right? no point for me going to war like this when i don't gain anything...

thx

Look at the tooltip before you press. It says "if X is part of my dynasty or I am the dejure liege of X, then X will become my vassal".

If they are not part of your dynasty or part of the de jure kingdom/duchy, or if the title you are trying to press is equal to yours, then they will become independent.

This happens when people you press the claim for are NOT your vassals, for example courtiers or something. You have to check carefully, or vassalize that person by granting them land.

"dejure liege " how's that?

You are the king of France but Orleans isn't part of your kingdom. You have someone who has a claim on Orleans and you press his/her claim. He/She isn't part of your dynasty but because you are the dejure liege of Orleans (since Orleans is de jure part of France), he/she becomes your vassal.

This is rarely done since being the King of France already grants you a claim on Orleans (so why press someone else's claim when you can just press your own?).

This is rarely done since being the King of France already grants you a claim on Orleans (so why press someone else's claim when you can just press your own?).

You can do it that way in order to take the entire duchy in one war, as opposed to going to war for every single county (presuming that the entire duchy is under the control of a single top-level liege). For example, if you break free from France playing as the duke of Aquitaine, you create the Kingdom of Aquitaine. Now, obviously, you have a claim on the entire territory of the duchy of Toulouse. You could wage war five times with France to win each county individually. Or you can look for some claimant on the duchy and win the entire duchy in a single war.

Unn, good point. Didn't think about that.
