So, France(me), England and Portugal share the same dynasty. England has a 50 year old queen, and no heir, so hovering over her name says her death will result in a "succession war between Portugal and France". Does this mean that Portugal will inherit and I will be the odd guy, who has to fight both of them? When I noticed this I also noticed Portugal had a royal marriage, and I did not, so I got me one of those as well, but it still reads the same.

What determines who inherits?

Not sure but I think England will receive an event where they get to choose between either France or Portugal, so it's 50-50 chance for it to choose either of them. Regardless of who they choose there will be a war between France and Portugal and England will fight on whatever side they chose to fight with.

Prestige is one of the primary factors determining who the personal union will be awarded to, who will be the attacker (2nd place) contesting it in a succession war, and who will be left out (3rd place+)

There's no event involved. It's purely prestige based, as Xara said.

Get more prestige, and use the Claim Throne option.

I don't think Claim Throne will make a difference in this situation. I know if you're the only country in the "Monarch Death Personal Union" list then claim throne will give you a CB, but I am pretty sure that Claim Throne when it states "Succession War" between your country and another won't do anything other than tick people off. Can anyone confirm this?

I have used it before and it changed the succession contenders to me + one of the others. Even when I wasn't part of that dynasty.

If you Claim Throne, than it will say "succession war between France and Portugal"! I tested it 2 times so i can confirm it.

I have used it before and it changed the succession contenders to me + one of the others. Even when I wasn't part of that dynasty.

My question is specifically whether or not you get a CB if you are already one of the countries in the succession war and you Claim Throne.

My question is specifically whether or not you get a CB if you are already one of the countries in the succession war and you Claim Throne.

The CB has nothing to do with who is listed to inherit, union, go to war, or whatnot. If you share dynasty and can claim, you get the CB. If you don't share it, you don't get one.
