Hi I've just started playing CK but in every scenario I play (as a count or duke) I always run out of money fast, especially when going to war against other provinces (the only way I can find of increasing the amount of land I have). Any tips for helping to fill the purse?
That can be a problem at first (and maybe for a while) when playing the 1066 scenario. One way you can help yourself is start with a rich province or provinces. Some of the areas are "dirt poor", such As Ireland and Wales (and yet I always play them, I am a sucker for the Celts

).
I would concentrate on slowly building up my demise, as there are a few improvements you can build right away. Also try expanding through marriage and inheritance. You may have to wait a while as you economy slowly improve before any military campaigns. A great steward is a big help here, never neglect appointing one and always look out for the best.
If you need to conquer (and who doesn't!

) be sure to go after really small and easy targets to absorb into your realm, although you may have to spend time and cash to build up their economies also if you ever want them to contribute later, not to mention your own income since standing armies cost.
Just remember when you are at war you are usually losing income during the months of mobilization so bare that in mind, especially if you field all your troops, so always have a surplus beforehand. Needless to say, the more you have, the more it will drain your economy.
Only other way to make cash (other then events) is through taxes, tolls, and scuttage (and cutting back on church donations). Beware though, the more you tax, the more your people will be unhappy. High scuttage annoys vassals and does shrink the size of their regiments also. Also depending on your laws you can adjust the slider only so far one way or the other and changing the laws has their own set of risks.
