I have 200 days left of my current career and I am having the hardest time finding the newer improved battles. Other then the obvious ones like the B-Team, what is the best way to find them? Are there certain planets that are more likely to host those newer contacts?

You learn to recognize them by the contract name. A few I know of:
Defeat in Detail (additional enemy lances are dropped after a few turns)
Tag Team (you and an allied lance vs two enemy lances)
Test Drive (low skull only, one of your pilots is in a Cataphract)
Clash of the Titans (low skull only, three-way fight, each enemy fields an assault mech)

They are intentionally not labeled as such, as at least a couple are supposed to be "surprises" (i.e. the second lance pops up and takes you by surprise, although obviously that only works the first time).

That said, reading the descriptions will often give you a hint (they'll mention multiple groups involved, or some other condition). Also note that some of them come in multiple flavors (e.g. the one where one of your pilots is babysitting a group of newbies can have several very different options for the opfor, depending on which flavor you get).
