Help- How to Stack Units

This may sound idiotic but there are dozens of posts answering the question "yes, you can stack countless units under one general" but no posts answering HOW you merge units. There is nothing in the manual on stacking divisions into one army, just on splitting an army. There is a "merge" hotkey listed on my manual "G" but it doesn't do anything I can figure.

What am I doing wrong. My armies are getting bigger and more annoying to move around.

You lasso them all and have them all selected and click "combine units".

Wow Thanks. You don't know how long I've been searching the forum FAQs for that little tidbit. This game is so frustrating in its lack of guidance but I can't stop playing

They also have to be all in the same provence.

Also, "g" works, but make sure you have caps lock off
