Hi there, I'm writing this here rather than in Tech support for a reason that will be obvious in a second. A friend let me borrow a non-steam version of Vic 2 Heart of Darkness 3.03 to try out on my new Win 10 comp to see if I liked it before buying the Steam complete version for $40. But I can't get it to even start up - I start the game and it immediately just goes to a black screen and I actually have to restart the computer to get out of it - an message in the Task Manager indicates the program just won't start. I know about the Map cache bug in 3.03 but this isn't it -- the game never actually starts up, so no map folder or cache is even generated to remove. I was hoping someone might have an answer, and I can't go to the tech support forum because I haven't registered my own copy of the game yet -- and I'm not spending the $40 if the game will never run on this machine.
I'm running the game on a Windows 10 PC Intel Core i7-6800K CPU 3.4 GhZ with 64 GB RAM and a GE Force GTX 1080 video card at 1920 x 1080 native resolution, so weak hardware isn't the issue. I also have successfully run Europa Universalis - Rome, which is an older game than Vic 2, so hardware incompatibility with a six-year old game shouldn't be an issue either.
The only thing I can think of is that either it's incompatible with a video card this new, or the native resolution is just too high. If anyone could offer me some suggestions or advice, I'd really aprreciate it, as I'd really like to give Vic 2 a try and make the purchase of the full game.
