I managed once again to unify Germany as conservative Empire (stupid Bayern - lost 100 prestige to DoW them twice in row..). But this is something very strange: my economy is skydiving like pack of mutant-alligators without proper jetpack!!!

Before I formed the empire, my Prussia was having happy income of 30£ a day with reasonable taxes & max tariffs. Now that I got bigger, I lose allmost 100£ a day! Do you have any idea why this is happening? My unemployment is quite huge now, but this shouldn't cause it because I have no unemployment subsidies enabled.
Only way to beat that is to raise taxation, but I'm not eager to do that because I really want those nationalists to calm down. Suppressing my rather big army (4th in world) is not an option since I'm surrounded by extremely hostile & big neighbours.

What to do? I'm afraid to release teh pause button coz that would draw me deeper into debt.

Your export income is divided amongst al your POPs, and it is this money that you tax. When you unified, your population probably doubled, if not more, but since the German minors rarely builds tons of factories, your export income stayed the same. Except now it was being spread over more POPs. At the same time, your education and crimefighting spending stayed proportionally the same.

Small profit + doubled spending + sharp decline in taxes = LOTS of money down the tube.

okay, so next 5-year plan will introduce massive industrialisation in forms of upgrading existing factories. Damned I haven't got hold on interchangeable parts yet. well, I guess rising my taxes temporarily is the only choise. :(

PS: forgot that exports are spreaded among citizens & that way unemployed pops matter. wont forget twice.

PPS: Memnon, you really should work for Paradox & get paid for your support.

Depends how his country was running. His crime fighting will now be more as he was more factories and more crime buildings while his education will be more has he has more pops to educate.

That's what I meant. His country doubed in size, so his payments of those two are still the same proportions because they are percentages, except now those percentages are actually larger real numbers.

Crime buildings add £1 each to the crime budget, so if he had a mostly crime free country and then annexed a bunch of crime infested AI provinces then his crime spending could have jumped compared to his population increase.

btw, German minors can build nice factories. However, some of these factories are destroyed when you annex. If you annex during war, more are destroyed than if you unify via 3 Hurrahs since peaceful annexation destroys less of the infrastructure (compared to war annex). One reason not to warmonger early on as Prussia is that you will have to build all these factories. I know this to be true as I have both war annexed and peacefully annexed German minors as Prussia, and I always get far better factories in the peaceful event situations.

Of course, to each their own. That BB 48+ is hard to handle, heh

btw, as for costs increasing, check other reforms and education. They all go up when you get lots more population.

Really? I never knew factories were destroyed when you annexed a nation. I can see if it was a violent annexation(kindda like scored earth) but didn't most German lower classmen like the idea of a unified Germany?

I could not post screenies. I just know I usually have 100+ factories after unification. 5 paper, 4 artillery, 4 small arms, 4 ammo, so many I shut down many many in Bavaria, Hessen, etc.

I took painful solution to this problem:
After I got "Monopoly", I increased capacity of all high-prof factories like glass & clothes. Then I went for railroad rampage, creating extensive lvl1 railroads across Germany. Circa 10 provinces with 1.3 grain were left out. Now I had debt that was eating 40£ off my daily salary, BUT after my projects got finished I actually made some profit with 40/40/40 taxes. Then I raised my taxes to 49, and invaded Denmark & made them pay war indeminents as they were allied just with Norway. Now I have daily positive balance of 20£, but paying off that mega-debt is going to take rest of my game. :(

I never heard of it either. Wolf, maybe you can take some screenshots to show us all?

Should be easy enough to test, check how many factorys a minor has, then annex them and see what you get. I'll go try that now.

Ok, I've tested this and factories no not seem to be affested by annexing. Playing as Prussia I DoWed the german minors, several had 1 factory both before and after annexiion, while Hanover had 6 both before and after they were annexed.

You have to wait till 0.3, or you could get the vip version and add it to 0.2b, but it doesn't include the new austrian empire chain the vanilla version has.
