In the game I was Austria in IGC.

I believe that in January 1507, after two good conquests in the HRE or Helevetia and Wurtemburg, I finally pissed off the Catholic Countries enough and foolishly started the First World War in Europe.

I declared war on Bavaria because she had no allies.
Then France attacks me... Before war With Bavaria they were -107 realtions with me.

Next, in June 1506, all of France's allies declare war on me.

I neglect to call on my allies because of too many popups.

I conquer Bohemia in January 1507

Helevetia falls to France in April 1507.

Next, Venice declares war in June 1507. I call my allies.
Thus-
Baden, Austria, Bohemia and Hungary (MY ALLIES)
vs.
Venice, Teutonic Order, Prussia, Pommerania, Hanseatic league, France, Savoy, Papal States.

I am the most hated county ever.
I saved, then

In June 19,1508 gave France Helevitia and 31 gold.
Now I have 2 bank loans out...
Then spain delcared war with Lorraine, Scotland and the Platinate.

Jan 7,1509 Venice peace.

Now, I believe I can resolvve the war with the Platinate soon, since I have nearly conquered them, and Possibly Lorraine, but this is merely absurd!

What would you do? I have 77 gold and about an army of 24K.

Believe me, it has happened to all of us. The human player is always hated after a while.:)

About your situation: A bit hard to judge just like that but I suggest you screw the Palatinate, make peace with the Spaniards and rest for some years. Make some money, lower your BB, etc. Otherwise: Go crazy and declare war on everyone.

This sounds like an perfectly excecuted badboy-war.
A few tips:
-don't DoW anyone for the next few years
-only ask money, no provinces in peace
your badboy rating is high enough as it is

hope this helps

Make peace as fast as you can with everyone, even if it costs you money. Then lay down for two years, build your armies, and declare some big wars :) Be prepared for another bb-war during the two years though - sounds like youre high enough already on the bb scale :)

urgh.
I made peace with Spain... without losing any provinces, but paying 4 gold in indemnities.
The annoying thing was I had the Platinate, then a spanish army of 60 came and killed all my pieces.

After that, 1 month later France declared war on me again, then Venice.

Now I had 5 loans Out :(

Then I gave France 2 Provinces, Venice 2... and the Reformation hit. I also lost one of my allies. Then I quit the game... I could reload and Make a white peace with the Platinate, but I fail to see how I could be saved.

If I am not fighting France, I am fighting Spain ???

I then decided to see what would happen (since I was losing) and I converted to PRotestant, took the gold, then went back to Catholic ;) :D

-
How do I check my "bad boy" rating?
-
Eagle, Barkdeg, those were my plans, thanks to you- but I was never at peace for even two months :( I had no time to rebuild.

Thank you for all your help, but I thinkg that next time when playing Austria, I'll just attack venice and take them instead of the other HRE provinces.

You can find your badboy by opening your save game file and then doing a search for the word "badboy" or for "major = yes" like that, you can find your badboy rather fast.

A search can be done by pressing control+f
and your save games are in the scenarios > save games folder.

Much easier if you search for Vienna and scroll up a little.

Thats what i mean, if you search for Major = Yes, you immediately end up at your own country, whereas if you search for badboy, you will have to scroll a few times :)

Austria is much better off staying at peace and going diplomatic in the beginning. You can rather easily diploannex Hungary and Bohemia - then you'll have about as much land territory as France and be able to do anything you want. I wouldn't try going out and conquering anyone at the beginning - maybe take a province off Venice just to have a port, but that's all.

And then you can diplo-annex Bavaria and some others as well... maybe Milan or Genoa...

Just fight wars if youre attacked, and for the rest focus on diplomacy and a bit of merchants.

Wrong :). Even as a minor like Venice (IGC) I nearly always keep my BB value below 10 preferably, below 20 if any possible, never exceeding 30. Win by colonization, forced attacks, backing other alliances attacks on Turkey et al. No reason for BB wars - they are a way too easy road to victory due to the incredible dull AI.

Seeing the BB reputation seems complicated- though I'll look at it.

However, I have never successfully annexed anyone- even the country of Baden refused a diplo-annex after I cheated an received 50K gold +3 stability and now controllled about 15 provinces, 12 more than they had ????

And as France, Lorraine continually refuses to be annexed?

Oh, and France conquered Milan and Genoa already by 1515 ;)
In addition, in a war with france, I took their capitol and stole their maps ;)

I never had enough money to be diplomatic- but now ith the cheat- thank you ! :)

There is this program EUSpy, which I can't find the site for right now... I have it though. Makes it easier to find BB, etc. in save-game files...

Good luck!

A bit lame to cheat... About the money - like any other way of playing, also diplomatic games require you to start small. You can hardly expect to have the money to throw around 10 state gifts a year, even as France... You will have to build slowly, to become large. Its worth it, and it offers a totally different experience. With cheating, you take away more than half the fun!

Also, check your monarchs diplomatic rating - if its below 4, dont even hope to succeed in a diplo annexation :)

Ally with Spain, and Poland - if you can. You can't take on the whole world as Austria. If you don't ally with Spain, don't create corridors to their lands. In general keep the number of borders with majors to a minimum. People who don't have borders with you won't DOW you for BB no matter how high it is. Oh and if you keep cheating the advice will run dry pretty soon

Countries declare war on you regardless of your common borders with them. Hell, ive seen Eire attack the Teutonic order or the knights... :) The borders have little to do with it...

Believe me. I had to cheat. When I started I attacked Wurtemburg and vassalized Baden, allied with Hungary and Baden and Bohemia... And that was all I did. Next I destroyed Helevetia. This was by 1501. Then Spain declared war on me and other nations and the troubles started coming. Thus, I had to cheat when France, Spain and a few other nations were at war.

I am incompetent in all games except for Civ II. I have never won ANY game. I have never beat ANY game without a COMPLETE walkthrough or CHEATS. I could not even play level one of Starcraft without a walkthrough. I wasted 2 hours on it without one. I couldn't play one mission of Command and Conquer.

The only games where I do good without cheats at anything but the lowest level are
Colonization and Civ II... and It took me 4 years of play before I could play those at even the lowest level.
