ok im trying to play as germany i wanted to write an event that can let me f12 trigger from time to time to reinforce the AI nations if they lose a large chunk of forces due to stupidity or bad luck
good examples are the english airforce in denmark when they surrender
the english airforce in france when they surrender
usually u lose 15 wings or half the air force to those (wow) i figure sealion was always too easy , now i know why
or better yet when the soviets stupidly allow thier entire army to be encircled and destroyed so that the famous winter counter offensives never happen
anyway after alot of help and questions i came up with an event chain that lets me add forces to the uk or ussr
i want to play as germany the whole time so i was informed theres problems with triggering events for other countries this way so with a little help i wrote 3 more events to trigger the others to fire
ive tried several ways of typing this into the f12 screen but nothing works
ive also tried fixing the events in several diff ways but as i dont really know what im doing it might have gotten away from me at virtually any point
ive let it run weeks but still no units (im checking for them in the statistics screen )
i also want these events to be pretty much instant and i sure wouldnt mind a cool pop up or even a footnote in the game log

ok i need someone to take a hard look at my events and find the problem !
also i wouldnt mind someone telling me exactly what to type into the f12 screen (pretty sure ive been doing that right but humor me )

one thing that comes to mind is, did you add the more_events.txt file to
hearts of iron 2/db events.txt file?
when you fire an event, you should get notification about the event firing. Which leads me to think that the more_events.txt file hasn't been loaded

p.s. Event 400007

also for events 400005,6,7
you'll want to add the persistent=yes lines to those as well or you'll only be able to fire those once

Okay.... I copy/pasted your events and fired up the game and they fired perfectly


so..... That leads me back to my original thought
I once had a problem when I tried to name a file player_created.txt, now that I think about it. I had the same symptoms......

try renaming the file to something like Human.txt (or just something without the _ ) and remember to change that events.txt file, and see if you have the same problem
below is an sample from my events.txt

the only other thing I could say would be to be sure to double check the # of 0's you type in when firing

I tested these out and they all work. I changed the event #'s to be lower to have a better chance of not typing in the wrong number. I also modified one of the events to give the british infantry as well. I added in the 2nd button just in case you called up the wrong event #. Because of that change I included the ai_chance line to make sure the computer chooses the right one. Please feel free to ask any questions.

yes you can play as germany to fire these. For that use events 9916-9919, and when fired they will trigger the other events

If you still have trouble getting these to fire, copy/paste the events into the end of hearts of iron 2/db/events/hoi2.txt
because that file already exists in the vanilla game, you'll be able to see if it's the file name of the file you created or if you're just not typing in the right thing to fire the event.

and for 9919, It felt appropriate :D

Then in Hearts of Iron 2/db/events/
put in a file called Human.txt

in that file put in the events you made then fire up the game and try triggering the events in-game

is there any real reason to change that again ?

mainly personal pref. With having a seperate file you'd be able to put in events without having to open or mess with any of the vanilla event files.

hehe just when you thought you killed most of the reds, here comes another 200 divisions :eek: :D

events work fine , job well done
however i got errors first reload
apparently those event numbers were already in use ?
i changed them to 400,000 series and got game to load ok after that
