You also might want to check out the Stellaris wiki and the Dev Diaries. if you didnt do so already - there is a bunch of information on the basic mechanics of the game that are helpfull when first starting to play.
Watching Lets plays also helps alot.

- Loosing a War does not necesseraly mean loosing the Game.
- Set you own Goals!
- Try different Tactics, Strategies and Startpoistions (or in case of Stellaris Ethoses)
